Very Scared

I didn't get to sleep until about 4am.
Woke up about one half hour ago
confused. This has never happened before,
even when I was drinking. I couldn't
remember my name, my room was
not familiar and I started to panic.
The only meds that I am on is Zoloft
and aspirin. I have regained some
memory but I am light headed and
can't recall much about yesterday.
Yet I am able to type this post.
Needless to say, my wife is very upset.
Has this happened to anyone else?
I know it has been over a month since
I had anything to drink. My God this is
scary.

Google side effects of Zoloft. I used to work in pharma, it's a potent and dangerous drug.

Blessings.

Call your doctor's office, talk to a nurse and let them know. For sure.

If it were me, I'd go to the ER immediately to rule out anything serious..... Way better to be safe than sorry. I went to the ER a few months ago thinking I might be having a stroke. They did a variety of tests to figure out whether it was anything to be worried about or not, and I knew if anything further happened while I was there that I was in the best of all places for it to be handled.

Are you drinking anything with caffeine?

Try going out for a good brisk walk etc. a few hours before you would normally go to bed..
Prioritize what's important and what's not. I can get easily distracted if I have too many things going on at once.

Your cognitive signs and symptoms may have nothing whatsoever to do with your drinking. Your current mental state may be a passing phase, or it may be related to another medical anomaly. The only way to be certain is to get a complete workup.

I don't drink coffee after 5pm.
I was off Zoloft for a couple of
days and I took one about 7pm
yesterday. I have a slight headache.

My wife is watching me. If this
doesn't get better soon, I'm
going in. Thank you for
being here for me, this whole
thing is hell on earth.

My Dr. had me on Zoloft a few years back when I returned to Canada after living in Switzerland for 3yrs...wasn't adjusting well to life back here....after 4mths, I forced her to taper me off as it was friggin horrible.

I hope you feel better soon and yes, if you still feel "off" in a few hours - probably better to be safe than sorry and head to an ER.

I would get checked out by a doctor or in the ER. It is not good to go off and on zoloft(it needs to be weaned down or up), and maybe that is what happened, but better to be safe.

I have calmed down some but feel
lightheaded and have a headache.
Memory has holes in it.
Like too many people do, I felt a little better
and stopped taking the medication. I'm
lucky that the ER is two blocks away.
It must be something to do with
stopping for a couple of days and then
starting again. I hope it is. Thank you
for being there everyone.

I never liked to be on medications
though they are necessary.

Anytime I put some kind of meds or alcohol
in my body I had to learn that it messed up
the chemical imbalance in my system. It wasn't
till after I got into recovery that I also had to
learn not to put any kind of narcotic or habit
forming drugs in my body. So anytime I have
to, which today is extremely rare, visit the doctor,
they are made aware of my recovery and I make
sure nothing is administered that would disturb
my recovery/sobriety because it means that much
to protect it. It's that important to do whatever
I need to do within my recovery program guiding
me in making honest decisions about remaining
sober.

It takes time for our bodies to heal from
all the abuse we put it thru with substance
abuse. Working closely and honestly with
our own physicians they can help us find
what works well for us to live a healthy
life. What works for one many not work
for another. Find what will work well for
you to inhance your well being and ur
life in recovery for yrs. to come.

That would be my guess, but i'm not a Doctor. Even if you are feeling better I would absoutely call your Doc and let them know what happened and also that you stopped and re-started your meds.

I take Zoloft, too. My doc made sure I was clear that it's a med you can't just stop taking. You need to taper off of it with your Docs help.

Zoloft may not be the right one for you. I tried Prozac and Wellbutrin before I landed with Zoloft.

Talk to your doc and let him make the decision. Best of luck.

All medications should be taken as prescribed, especially SSRI anti-depressants like Zoloft. If you have an issue with the medication, contact your Dr. before attempting to stop or adjust them yourself. From my experience, SSRI anti-depressants can have some disconcerting side-effects. I found they went away after a month or so, but everyone reacts differently so that's why you want to discuss this with your Dr.

Also, your episode may have had nothing to do with your medication, so that's another reason to see your Dr.
