Ugh...you poor thing. I hope you can take a nap today. Do you drink caffeine? I find it hidden in strange places...hot chocolate and soda.

I drink herbal teas...no caffeine cause i do have a sensitivity. And water, lots of water. Maybe my inhaler? I take advair twice a day...asthma.

It's a common side effect of alcohol withdrawal, unfortunately.

Welcome to the club!

I struggled to sleep 2 hours a night the first two weeks............ this was WITH sleep-aids, my brain just would not turn off no matter what i tried or did. If i could isolate the single most defining thing about my sobriety it would probably be insomnia. Every single other withdrawal symptom disappeared almost overnight compared to insomnia........ the insomnia lingered for weeks and weeks and weeks.

What you are going thru is 100% normal and expected, it gets better albeit slowly.

Good luck

Till Brooklyn!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I got about 2 hours last night. I know it does get better as I have experienced it in the past when I was able to quit for a couple of weeks.

Being a smoker (I'm not advocating anyone start), I have found the early AM hours to be peaceful outside. That said, I prefer sleep over that.

Hang in there,it does get a lot better.
Go for a nice walk when you get home from work.
Have a wind down period tonight and drink some relaxing tea.

It passes, like everyone said. I just kept going, and usually the no sleep nights would soon be followed by a 12 hour-sleep night. ahhhhhhhh.

Hi christimc,

I feel your pain.

My brain feels like a chunk of cheddar cheese (mild, not sharp) and all the work I used to do at night after I put my girls to sleep is taking 2-3 times as long as before.

Then I sit and stare at the wall for a while and go to sleep.

Absolutely love not beating myself up morning after morning, how about you ?

Help

I'm brand new to this thread so forgive me if this isn't kosher. I was given xanax to sleep. Otherwise I would be awake all night long. I didn't need them the last two nights. Congrats on quitting. I feel so much better and sleep better. Also lost 4 pounds. We can do this!
