sobriety

Stopped drinking May 15--sleeping better, but find myself more depressed than when I was drinking. I'm 76, just retired, live alone, fairly active physically until 2 days ago when I sprained my ankle.

Hi, welcome to the site.

Congratulations on your two weeks! Sorry to hear about the ankle.

Your moods should stabilize soon. Are you getting any outside support? Have you tried AA? Lots of older and retired people in the rooms, you would like it I think. There are plenty of social events etc. Have you tried any local senior centers?

I find eating a healthy diet and limiting sugar and caffeine is helpful for stable moods. So is a little exercise, but I guess you're limited with the ankle injury.

Welcome to SR

A lot of us experience that, especially if drinking was a major part of our lives.
Did you have any depression previously dlfincrest?

You're still in early recovery and your moods can be up and down for a while. It will get better, just stay sober and treat yourself well.
