Newbie

Hello,

I am new to this site. I've been drinking pretty steadily for the past 30 years😩. I drank my last glass of wine 9 months ago. There was no big farewell...no closure ... I didn't know it would be my last until the next day. I decided then that the buzz was not worth giving up a whole day of my life being hungover. It was exhausting! I question my drinking everyday. I didn't drink everyday but the couple of days a week I did drink I would DRINK!! Am I an alcoholic or just a social drinker? I honestly don't know. But I know I need support. All of my friends drink, my family drinks and my husband, since I stopped, has only had a few beers. He is supportive and great but I need more.

It feels good just to write this today.

If anyone is reading this...thank you!!!💕

Welcome Michelle! Only you can decide if you're an alcoholic, but I'm guessing you cake here for a reason. Congrats on 9 months, that is fantastic! Keep reading and posting, I'm sure you will find some stories similar to your own.

I found that wondering if I actually fit the criteria of whatever an "alcoholic" is and obsessing over whether I could drink "normally" after a period of abstinence became almost as exhausting as those hungover days you describe. For me, I say "who cares?" Haven't I drank enough? There's so much more to life.

Welcome, Michelle. I gave up wine 8 months ago and my quitting was with out a lot of fanfare either. In fact, at the time, I felt like I was just giving sobriety "a try". All of my family and friends are drinkers and my husband sounds exactly like yours. In fact, I can't remember the last time he has a drink in front of me, but he does on occasion have a beer or two at business functions.

Since I do not attend AA or RR, I have found SR to be the only place where people really "get it." I have grown so much as a person getting sober and learning so much from the good people on SR. I do not think you will regret joining.
