Health anxiety

Day 4... I'm obsessively worrying that my alcoholism has given me some type of cancer... So so irrational. Has anyone had crazy irrational thoughts feeling low

High anxiety is one of the withdrawal symtoms.
Try to relax, drink some tea.
Our bodies are quite remarkable at repairing itself.
Be very proud of yourself,4 days is awesome.

This shall pass, trust me,I've been there.

Yes, I had the same anxiety. It got much better after I was sober for a bit. If it persists or becomes worse, see a doc or a counselor. Anxiety is a very common and very treatable problem.

Yea thats how I was the first few days. When you're in a heightened state of anxiety it's easy to have irrational fears. Do something relaxing, as mentioned by Resolute, tea, hot bath or shower, listen to some music, keep posting on SR. You're ok

You're not alone Hez. The best thing you can do is face it head on and go see your doctor. Simple blood tests can show damage. It may not be as bad as you think. Don't try and diagnose yourself on the internet. I did that and convinced myself I was dying and here I am- ok - as long as I don't drink. Drink lots of water, eat healthy and take vitamins. As long as you stay away from the alcohol, your body will begin to heal. Your skin will change, bloating will go down and your eyes will get brighter. People will notice and comment. Feel better and be proud of yourself for another sober day

I had many crazy irrational thoughts.....with the absense of alcohol we are aware and thinking. Combine that with the anxiety of withdrawal and we can feel like we are going nuts. It passes. Many people see thier doctors to give them peace of mind that they are ok. You will calm down and feel better soon, hez. Keep up the good work and stay on this site. Congratulations on 4 days....tomorrow will be 5!

A lot of us have been there, and there's plenty of good advise here. Go see a doctor, you'll most likely see you're ok physically and your anxiety will dissipate.

The early days and anxiety go hand in hand.

Hang in there, it gets better. I bought SleepyTime Wellness Tea and Tension Tamer tea, and I drank a lot of them in the first month. Try to remember this crazy time, so you don't ever go back to drinking and have to do this again.

Eat well, try to get a little exercise, and if you want to sleep 14 hours, sleep 14 hours. It took me about a month before I slept eight hours a day for more than a few days in a row. Lots of 2AM wakeups, and I'd have to get up and have some milk or hot chocolate. Good thing is, SR is always here.

Just remember this.
It really helps as a tool in the future.
When that ole craving comes around. Just remember how the anxiety felt.
It works, another tool in your belt my friend.

Yes, this thread will always be here.

Any "bedtime tea" will work, "SleepyTime" and "SleepyTime Wellness" teas are by Celestial Seasonings - it's a U.S. company, but I'm sure Scotland has an equivalent. The regular SleepyTime is chamomile and peppermint, the Wellness is the same, but it has Valerian in it (a relaxing herb). Chamomile tea is a good substitute. Very relaxing.

Hez - I'm still convinced I am dying although I appear to be in good health. I think it is the guilt that remains from being so neglient of my body for a long time.

Fact is, if something is seriously wrong with us our bodies have ways of telling us. I have to remind myself of that a lot - and I've been sober almost 2 years.

Good advice here in your thread. All I can add is to see your doctor if you can and get a work up for peace of mind otherwise, it's just in our heads most of the time.

I don't know how long post or threads stay accessible.
I'm sure they have something similar to Sleepy time there.
Something with chamomile really helps.
