I did it!

Well, I took my first dose of antabuse last night and I'm grateful for it. In another thread I stated that just having it available made me feel stronger. I'm pretty sure people on here misunderstood my meaning when I said I didn't want to start it right away. The reason I was hesitating starting it was the fact that I was worried that the alcohol wasn't out of my system yet from the 2 days before. And truthfully, just having it in my possession made me know that a breakthrough was in sight. I fully intend to take it every night from now on. I wasn't hesitating to take it because I wanted to still drink, which is what I think people on here thought I was saying. From now on I take it every night. Last night I had weird dreams, but otherwise, so far so good.

Good for you. Go for it!

Since I got sober a dream a lot; or at least I remember.

Still sober and on day 5. Tonight was the hardest night. If it wasn't for the antabuse I MIGHT have caved and had some wine, but instead, I spent the money I would have spent for cheap wine for the past few days and had some delicious Thai take out food. I have to work on losing some weight next, but right now the food is replacing the wine. And having thousands fewer calories a day by not drinking wine should help. I'm still struggling with the idea of NEVER having any wine again, but I expect that will get easier the longer I'm sober.

Don't think about the never. It hasn't happened yet. Think about whatever it takes to get you through to bedtime and another sober day behind you. X

So far I've not noticed any discernible side effects from the antabuse. Wouldn't that be funny if I have been taking a placebo all this time? Of course I would never know as long as I don't drink, so it probably would work just as well. $237.50 for a month's worth of placebos would make some drug company pretty rich! Of course I won't find out, just a thought.
