1st business trip sober
1st business trip sober
Gearing up to head out of town.
My plan of attack as follows:
1. Exercise- walk outside or use the hotel workout room
2. Eat a lot of fruit for snacks for cravings/drink lots of water
3. Go out with coworkers but just do not drink
4. Meditate in the am and before bed
5. Stay on SR to keep updated and remind myself of the importance of sobriety
6. I have the confidence now after 7 weeks that I do not need any substance to deal with life. Life is substance enough.
7. Wake up everyday with a smile/positive attitude to be thankful for all I have.
8. Remind myself that I am an adult and can make my own decisions. I know better then to get alcohol and sit in the hotel room. I am in charge and not alcohol. I do not need a baby sitter because I am an adult and can take care of myself and make my own decisions
Ready for the challenge

Great plan!
Just to add to #7:
Give yourself plenty of time in the morning to wake-up, get ready and get to where you need to go. If you are driving in the morning, allow for extra travel time. Having to rush definitely stresses me out when I am in a new environment and starts the work day with an 'off' kind of feel...and you want to feel 'on the ball' and ready for success!
You definitely sound like you are ready! Please keep us posted.

There are some of the things I also do on business trips. This was another, similar thread yesterday:

Another thing I like to do, depending on where you travel of course: go out walk around look at the place, sightseeing, etc. For me that's stimulating and takes my mind off from destructive behaviors.

right on! you can do it.
I have survived a lot of these, including two 10-day sober stints in VEGAS at conferences oozing with boozing.
I had a gameplan similar to yours - with the additional specific game plan of a 'go-to' beverage plan.
In the bars and restaurants - when I needed to be present for work reasons - I had Pellegrino with a lemon as my stand-by drink. If no Pellegrino - Cranberry juice and soda with a lime. This way I already had my plan ahead of time and didn't fall into that tempting blank zone of 'gee what will I drink while everyone's drinking and give the AV a chance to jump in.
It worked really well - people noticed, but in a good way. I've had co-workers come to me to acknowledge their own struggles with alcohol. I've had people say to me "I wish I could do that" as I sipped a crisp Pellegrino and they looked at their ninth glass of merlot with disdain....
Eating healthy really helps and getting a daily run or hitting the hotel gym early in the am also helps to set the mind and the body and the intent behind healthfulness.
I also found that bringing a copy of the Big Book and reading some of the personal accounts was a great way to keep my head centered and remember all the reasons I choose sobriety.

Going good so far. Passed out at hotel for several hours. My poor wife is alone with our newborn. I needed to catch up on some sleep. I was invited out but I didn't go because I didn't feel ready yet and I was exhausted. Gonna get some exercise tonight. Drinking tons of water. Of course we have 2 bars next to the hotel. I am not giving in though.

Good luck.
I share your pain with business trips away and drink and the pressure to drink from colleagues.
I can only speak for myself and my own behaviour.
I had to be extra careful when I got home though and on the journey back too, especially if I was flying and their was booze, free or not.
If I had done well and not drunk and achieved what had wanted to achieve, there used to be a little voice in the back of my mind that would be saying 'you have done so well not drinking when away. There was no bad behaviour, blackouts, shame, what did I do, what did I say so I must deserve one drink at home or on my way back. Just the one, maybe a half bottle of wine, or to be more cost effective a full bottle.
Then before
I knew it I was back to where I was and all I achieved seemed pointless and I was back to being cross with myself.
But that's just me and my behaviour.
Wishing you the best x

I am 80 days sober and leaving early Saturday morning for an extended business trip myself. I will be gone 23 out of the next 30 days. Am I apprehensive...yes. I can't worry about it though. Take it a day at a time.
Big test tonight. Going out to a brewery tonight and my coworker booze brother is in town now. Gonna be tough telling him i dont drink anymore but he will understand. I will be fine with a soft drink or water.
