For Those Trying To Avoid Alcohol, Good Luck!
I went shopping with my wife today and
every damn store we went into had an
alcohol display. I'm sure the Walgreen
brothers would be rolling in their graves
if they knew their stores were selling
Budweiser.

Yea it is hard in the beginning, it is everywhere you look, even on TV.
Once at a convenient store on one of my sobriety stretches (it's been a while ago now) I went to the restroom but had to wait outside to take my turn, right next to stacks of beer, I finally just left and held it till I got home.

It's nuts. I just tried to go grocery shopping and actually picked up a bottle of vodka off the shelf (their alcohol display is the first thing you see when you walk in) the AV was like "oh we could buy it and just have a shot and pour the rest out"...been there done that and for crying out loud I was afraid I was going to die last week from this crap! Had a full blown panic attack and bolted out of the store. No groceries in hand but at least no alcohol either. I called a sober friend of mine to rant about this and she told me about a tiny co op in town that doesn't sell alcohol... I'll be doing all my grocery shopping there from now on. This is so HARD. It's everywhere!

Yes, I used to be bothered a lot by it, now I seem to drift more in to a sense of not caring if they sell it or not. It's just like any other chemical to me that I don't buy. I guess you just have to rationalize in your head that It's of no interest to you. It does take will power. Whoever says that willpower doesn't have anything to do with it has not walked in my shoes.
Truth. I have to avoid the wine aisles (yes, multiple!) at my corner stores otherwise I will stand there entranced like a crazy person. I think it's almost worse in the summer because the stores are all gearing up to hype beers in a cooler by the pool and whatnot.
This bothered me a lot early on... Like if booze wasn't everywhere I might not have a hard time staying away from it! 8 months sober and I barely notice it now... Don't even think about it even when I'm around people drinking... I just say I don't drink if offered and it doesn't even phase me anymore. You'll get there!!
