Making a plan
Making a plan
I have noticed since I have been active here again this last week or so that there seem to be a lot of people here starting out with good intentions but falling at the first fence. Lots of 'Day 1's and so forth one never hears from again. I am not judging anyone - I am a 'serial quitter' myself, though with a recent more or less clear six months. I get a feeling I'm getting there at last at any rate.
I have been encouraged to make a plan to support my recovery and I have. I am finding it helpful and I wondered if others here might find it a way to get some traction. Here's mine (as an example)
1. Don't drink no matter what.
2. Attend 4 AA meetings a week.
3. Get phone numbers of AA members and use them (done - also meet a few socially)
4. If struggling with cravings use phone number (no need to as yet)
5. Get more exercise. Ride bike every day (do that so far four times in a week)
6. Visit Soberrecovery several times a day and post several times a day.
7. Read recovery literature. (do that)
8. Put drinking money aside and buy a treat at the end of month one. (done that sort of mentally!)
It is basic but it helps put a sort of structure around my recovery.

I agree that there is more to just not
drinking. Anyone can stop drinking for
a day but can they stay stopped. Of,
course, why would anyone want to stop
if they are having so much fun.
I had to stop for 28 days because my
family intervened on me sending me
to rehab where there was NO alcohol
to reach for when I got anxious, fearful,
scared, mad, angry, resentful, happy,
whatever the mood was for that day.
I was taught about my addiction then
handed some tools and knowledge of
a recovery program before I was sent
home.
Then the ball was in my court as to
what I willing to do next in my life.
Did I want to go back to all the fun
I had drinking? Too all those so called
friends I met in clubs while my little
ones and family was home? Did I
want to race someone on the night
road stopping and placing my life in
danger? Going home with strangers?
Hitting a concrete culvert sitting on
top the ground at 2am less than a
mile from home with EMS taking me
to the hospital where I spent 10 day
with my punctured spleen being removed
so I wouldn't die?
Yeah, I think i'll go back to drinking
cause I so enjoyed doing all that.
Because I chose to be willing to do
whatever I needed and wanted to
do to remain sober, I did.
Sooooo, kudos to you for making
a plan and sticking to it. Whatever
it takes to stay sober in helping you
learn to live a healthy, happy, honest
life in recovery.
