Blood tests and needles

So, first thing monday morning I have to go in and get complete blood work up. First of all, needles scare the hell out of me. I'll be shaking like a leaf and hoping I don't pass out. Secondly, I'm dreading a phone call back from the Doctor saying something along the lines of 'you have nothing but a giant pickle left for a liver'. I'm only on 5 days sober now so whatever the results I'm sure they'll be abnormal.

Well, as they say, don't borrow trouble from the future.

I've had so many blood draws that I don't even care any more. LOL, nothing bad will happen, you can always look away.

The liver is a resilient organ - to a point.

One day at a time.

I look away and make small talk with the nurse: I always remind myself removing the bandage is far more uncomfortable than the needle!

Try not to worry unnecessarily, Hawk07. At this point what's done is done, all you're doing if learning about it. Everyone thinks they're in terrible shape but most of the time it's not as bad as you fear. As has been said, the body has an amazing ability to heal once we quit poisoning it. It's vitally important right now to get sober, stay clean and not do any more damage.

Good luck! I hope all the news is good.

Wishing you the best Hawk

Most of us have found that things were not as bad as we feared - I have high hopes you'll be among that group too

Hawk, after you get these labs back make sure you go in every 6 months. That way there is no big fear, and you catch everything early. Good luck

You are 5 days sober, Hawk. And we are proud of you. Keep doing what you are doing. You are on the right path. Don't stray.

Whatever the results are, this will be another wake up call and more enforcement that I can never pick up another drink again.

Hawk, that needle thing, to this day I'm
terror stricken when I need an IM or an IV.

Just keep coming back when you need support
with your battle, you have a support team here.

Well I survived it. Didn't go running for the hills or pass out. The nurse was very nice when I told her how nervous I was around needles and talked non stop about random things to distract me. Now the only scary part is waiting 1-3 days for the results...

Thanks. And thanks again for the tip on bringing some orange juice. Helped a lot afterwards.

That's what I'm using mine for . Bad results. I was confronted by doctor on alcohol. Of course I denied it. What, little innocent me????

I hope your test turns out better than mine, but even so, the affects of alcohol can obviously come on quickly and it isn't worth compromising your health...this of course coming from a dumbars that's better at giving advice than taking it.

Breathe! Do not hold your breath. Seriously. Concentrate on breathing as regularly as you can. Hugs to you.
