Trading binge drinking for binge watching TV series

I'm only on day 8 I've tried to be sober before but I would start to feel good after a week or 3 then go back to drinking and start the vicious cycle again. This time feels different though. I'm having cravings pretty frequently but I'm learning how to say no to them. Anyway I started binge watching the office on nextflix since last week lol. Besides going to work, socializing, exercising I feel like I traded my binge drinking for binge watching tv lol. I feel like it's been a really good distracting for me and it makes the time fly by just like drinking did. Anyone else find a show they like so much and just start binge watching it?

I did the same thing with the series "Lost", that show rocked, and I had never heard of it. Got me through four days of pain.

So funny that you mention this!

Ok! Weird. I just googled to find which network the series 'The Wire' is shown after reading the raves on Oldselfagain's thread about boxsets...

There are 5 seasons!!! My first reaction was 'Oh no'! If I like the show, and I think that I will, this means I will be sleep deprived for the next few days

It IS a full moon tonight. Time to do something a little crazy (Hah! PurpleKnight, put the kettle on), right?

Yeah, I have watched so much Netflix. It's a pretty bad addiction.

Today someone in a meeting said they are reading too much. I wish that was my problem.

Reality TV on Netflix. . .and SR. Ugh. I gotta get a life.

Hey Bimini, perhaps they will add a 'Netflix Addiction' section on the SR site...that way we could all talk about it and offer regular support

Gettingbetter - congrats to you on your 8 Days and learning new skills!

The wire was a great series, reminded me a lot of the shield. I only watched 4 seasons though, may have to pick back up

Hmmm this seems pretty common. I have done this too, either Netflix or downloading a series.

Watching a TV series consistently
will never harm. If you like it and
can relax, what the heck!

I'm a PC nut.

Good to know I'm not a lone. I've never heard of The wire. I'll look it up!

Some addictions are worse than others. Take it easy on yourself.

Ha! I did the same thing. Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad, Nurse Jackie. In the beginning that's all I wanted to do. Lie on my bed at night and get lost in those series. And it works! I see no harm in it. I did get to the point where I felt I was over doing it and cut back. Now I spend my time reading these posts!

Me, too--Law and Order SVU got me through the first 6 months of sobriety. Back to back episodes all day, every day (except when I was at work).

I watched a couple of the Addicted episodes on Netflix. Lol
Now trying more lighthearted stuff - re-watching Parenthood, and going to try House of Cards.
Can't wait for season 2 of Orange is the New Black.

Enjoy!
