AW, you have probably surmised that nearly everyone is denied the first time, no matter the merits of their case. Sad and stupid but true. My dad was in terrible shape when he first applied (had had a heart attack, cancer and hadn't been ambulatory for nearly a year) and was denied. For whatever stupid reason the 'system' seems to work by discouraging as many as possible.
If your case is a strong one (and it sounds like it is as you present it) then you should eventually get it sorted out. I hope your lawyer can grease the skids a bit.
Best of luck! Stay strong in your sobriety and hang in there as best you can.

Thanx guys :-) I felt really down when I read the letter. I'm thinking this through & already feeling a lil better. Spoke w\ my attorney & all. The letter just seemed they based their decision on my mental issues; anxiety & depression & not the fact that I'm physically in pain 24/7. But anyway gathering something's to send now. Extremely anxious to go out in public. But ehhh will have tunes & try not to focus on where I'm at LoL

Hi Dennis
I am glad to see that you are still sober. Please do not be discouraged and definitely get a lawyer. I know plenty of people who are disabled (through my job) and I have yet to meet one who got approved on the first try (and with no lawyer). They do it so people get discouraged and give up, like a weeding process. With a decent disability lawyer, you should be able to get it on appeal though. I am not sure in MA but in WA, their cut is about 25 to 30%
