Not going to get the job I wanted.

I found out this morning that I am not going to get the job that I had been counting on. I am employed now, but I am not making as much as I had grown used to. I am in a sales job where I sell a fantastic product, but it takes a long time to build up a clientelle and really get going in this business.

The real problem is the organization that I work for is incredibly disfunctional. There are a lot of good and very experienced people here and everyone knows that if this place was run correctly and some money was put back into the business it would thrive.

The fundamental problem here is the owner of the business who steps over hundred dollar bills to pick up pennies. I don't want to give out enough information to reveal where I work. We sell a high line product to very affluent clients, many of whom are millionaires.

We do not even have Sweet N Low for our client's coffee. We have a 20 year old coffee maker and cardboard generic sugar and creamer containers. Also our coffee is the cheapest Robusta that is available. It is undrinkable for me. Our competition has barristas and espresso machines. Recently our owner gave a speech so harsh and condescending to the Service department that 3 of the 7 technicians quit the next day.

The owner has the business up for sale and the sale cannot come soon enough to suit anyone. I could go on and on with my venting.

I am frustrated today. I am still resolved to not have a drink tonight. My relationship with my wife has taken a big upturn in the past two weeks and I don't want to go back to the way it was. I just need to continue to look for a happier position in my spare time.

If you are persistent you will find another job soon. Perhaps a little gratitude would be in order - even though you may not make as much as you have grown used to, you do have a job - which is more than many can say right now. Also remember that there are fundamental problems in every organization - "the grass is always greener", especially in sales. I worked for many years in technology consulting and just about every company has issues and bad people within. Work within the framework you are allowed and know that your opportunity will come.

Nice work on staying sober too - look at all the good that has come from that.

Good for you for coming here to vent.

It will all work out exactly the way it is supposed to.

One thing in sobriety I learned is I don't always get what I want but I get what I need. That may not be what you want to hear but I have found it to be true.

I can empathize with your frustration vf. Hang in there and stay strong. You will come out the winner in the long run. Keeping peace on the home front is good. Don't lose focus on that no matter what happens with the job.
Maybe it's good the place is being sold - a new makeover could be in your favor. Maybe?

I have had a terrible headache this afternoon. I wonder if this has to do with drying out? This is the worst I have felt in the 2 weeks since quitting.

I made sure to keep well hydrated with water and coconut water. I was very dehydrated from drinking and suffered from it the first month or so.

I always think it's a good idea to see a doctor. I know my doctor and therapist have been fantastic.

a visit to the doctor would be wise vf. in the mean time hydrate, and look into replenishment vitamins.

Hi vf. I can certainly relate to being frustrated with your employer. I'm hoping this is a hiccup and it will be sold to a good operator, hence this is just a blip.

Very disappointing as an aside to be rejected for a job so early in sobriety. I'm glad you didn't drink AND were brave enough to go for it.

Best of luck. Be sure to update us if you can!
