Therapy

Hi everyone hope everyone is having a good day. I ran into a question that I can't answer. It is because I have no experience dealing with it. My therapist ask me the other day "what are things I can do to help you stay sober". I thought about it and couldn't come up with a answer. Can someone tell me what the people in your life do. How do they help.

Hi Ace333, welcome to SR
My wife gets a cup of tea into my hand before someone offers a beer.

I can't speak for you. I really do not know you. However, I would like to share with you what has worked for me. The reason why i was drinking was that i had a hole in my life that made me feel empty. I filled that hole with my relationship and my hobbies. Once i knew quitting alcohol was going to save my relationship it became an easy choice. I drank from around 1980 to 2008. I would drink to the point of passing out when i drank. Or try to each time. I wanted to commit suicide from around the age of 12 to in my 30s. I was too scared to kill myself and i am VERY glad i was.

Good luck and if you need to talk you can private message me anytime.

edit, i would also like to add that coming out or just being comfortable with being gay is what most likely ended my close to 30 year drinking spree.

I found a way to aim my anger at other things. (anger is THE reason I drink) Emotions are a reason lots of folks drink I'm sure.

Lately I've been working out really hard.

The first week, I left ALL money at home. No credit cards, cash or anything.

Welcome Ace

Just so I get it straight - your therapist is asking you what they can do to help you stay sober?
