Triggered by a BBQ

Hi everyone,

So I saved all this money being sober 11 days. Got myself a new BBQ!
I just finished unpacking it, there are 10000 pieces and instructions are brutal for the lack of a better word.

Usually I would get drunk, start building it and get pissed off in the process then drink more and feel awful afterwords because of the hangover and the unfinished job.

Instead of drinking, I left all the pieces there, had lunch, and will now take a cat nap. LOL! Called my brother and he will come help me later today. ;-)

What I learned? the BBQ can wait until I feel more patient and drinking will not build a BBQ. Voila!

I would humbly add, don't throw the instructions away. They actually do help

Well done, I'm hopeless at building things even from instruction manuals etc.
Enjoy the BBQ🍔🍔🔆🔆

Identify all the parts first, little piles just like in the manual. I hate it when I put a bolt in that is too long, early in the assembly, only to find that the shorter one I should have used instead simply won't work in place of the long one. Strip it down and start again. Arg.

But being hammered and trying to do this makes the job almost un-possible. What goes on the grill first, Pat?

Yeah, I know what you mean. Having to figure out how to deal with a new electronic gadget drives me nuts!! I hate having to deal with directions. Just want to get it done. Throw a couple of ribs on that grill for me. ENJOY

You are learning ThePatman! Drinking just makes us more confused and foggy. Hope you and bro can put those 10000 pieces in their place. I'll have a burger please.

Hope you'll be grillin' by dinner! I put together a wardrobe during my last sobriety stint. I am female and was not accustomed to such tasks. It was a hideously frustrating ordeal and like you...I recall knowing that I would've ended up drinking had I been "off wagon" so to speak and it wouldn't have gotten done. It got done...lotta of cussin' and holding back of tears and tantrum..but it got done. It wouldn't have otherwise..I would've ended up drunk and calling on a man.

Sir... I have put many BBQ together. They have actually gotten easier over the years but thousands of parts seems like a good estimate!

I am proud of you for your personal insight and corrective actions. Well done!

Know your skill set at all times.

I love this stuff, I don't know why... assembling pre packs..great job on recognising the trigger.

I can get triggered by many things....house painting was a nightmare...every time I bring out the paintbrushes to paint a room, eaves etc. I get the biggest craves to drink...they always went hand in hand, by 2 pm, paintbrush in one hand, bourbon (not my normal drink) in the other.
The only time I drank bourbon was house painting, plastering...I wont be doing either for a while...take care.

That's super to hear, Thepatman.

You are learning and growing and acquiring more tools as you move along. Yay!

Good job taking the nap and recognizing your AV.

When you get around to it, I'll take a big fat juicy steak..medium rare please.
