Wish it could be first thing in the morning all day
That's when I feel the furthest removed from the whole idea of drinking. It's also when I'm the most thankful I'm still abstinent. It seems that all the worst memories of drinking are the clearest when I first awake. Not just actual memories of the act, but all the emotions associated with it.
Last night I had another drinking dream. It wasn't really as traumatic as many are, but not pleasant either. It involved hiding drinking, as usual, and several people being physically close enough to me that I was paranoid they'd smell it on my breath. I wonder how many times that actually happened...
Even though it was only a dream, I awoke feeling uneasy. So, I did what I would never have done if I really was still drinking: got up and went for an early morning walk.

I winced when I saw the title...only because I am just NOT a morning person therefore I would be cranky and puffy eyed all darn day. I of course understood why you say that after reading your post.
I have no idea how long you have been abstinent but I'm hoping since you are in Newcomers it hasn't been that long. With some time under our belts, I'm hoping we bounce out of the bed to face the day rather than awake in fear or shame residue. With time comes confidence and a change of attitude and perspective..I hope.

I know what you mean. There was a song called Heaven by Emeli Sande released a couple of years ago, it featured the lyrics "I wake with good intentions, But the day it always lasts too long". That struck a chord with me, I always had the best of intentions not to binge drink or over-eat when I woke up in the morning, but too often I would give into temptation as the day progressed.
Ive got a routine now that helps me avoid those pitfalls, it involves getting fit. I have a goal to lose weight and get fit enough to run a 10k fun run. This is of course not the solution for everyone, but I honestly believe getting fit and staying fit is a big help with addiction no matter what age you are or how unhealthy you are at the moment.

Hi GMO,
Good for you for getting out and going on a walk!! 11weeks is huge.
I'm on day 2 and have been keeping busy all morning as well.
Glad your nightmare while asleep was just that...while asleep.
