I have recently given up drinking again very very early doors but I'm wondering if any of you experienced migraines from not drinking?
Mine start late afternoon until bed time to the point it makes me feel like rubbish so I go to bed.
Thanks for listening x

I did not, but I did have migraines for many years - they were related to hormones, weather (barometric pressure changes) and were also triggered by extreme stress and some foods like cheese, chocolate, caffeine, peanuts and citrus. Some people are triggered by wheat, as well.
It may or may not be related to withdrawal.

I have struggled with migraines in recovery.
Caffeine seemed to be a part of the problem. I have noticed that I increased caffeine intake and as I weaned the level of caffeine down I have had less headaches.
Also - I've been doing a lot of vegetable juicing and raw fruit and vegetable smoothies. I don't know if there is a causal relationship but it seems that since I started incorporating those, I've had a lot fewer migraines.

Sorry to read that you continue to struggle with your sobriety.
I had terrible headaches when I first quit. Since they went away the longer I stayed sober, I attributed them to withdrawals.

Hi, I have suffered from migraine headaches of sorts, defined as cluster headaches which is a form of migraine, but I did have headaches for the first few weeks after abstaining from alcohol, I think the lack of sleep and appetite was mainly the cause along with dehydration so be good to yourself for a while, drink plenty fluids, rest up and eat well. You will be back to normal soon enough.
Wishing you well.

I also had headaches in the beginning. Sometimes very painful on occasion. It was worst maybe during the first month, got some during the second, then they were gone. Maybe a little visit of a headache at 6 months, but it was short lived. It's propably recovery related. Maybe a reduction with caffeine will help with it. Good luck.
90 Days much better
I know going to the doctor is the best advice to give but I had really bad headaches every afternoon until about half way through my third month of sobriety. I wasn't sleeping well and also had used sleeping pills for a long time for about a year before I got sober. If I didn't drink myself to sleep I took the OTC sleeping pills. Thank God I have been completely clean and sober for 103 days and my headaches have gradually gone away. It just makes me realize how much damage I must have done to my nervous system. Blessings to you- It will get better!
