First AA meeting last night, loved it
Hello,
I'm 44 and have finally taken a step to get some help. Yep, I went to AA. I was absolutely terrified getting out of the car, but I did it and I loved it. I expected self pity, tears and pathetic stories. On the contrary, I did lots of nodding and laughing, what wonderful eople. I plan to go again today. Day 2 sober.

I'm glad you found us. I'm glad you had a good first meeting. Most people are afraid to go to the first meeting but soon feel comfortable there.
Congrats on two days. Keep on keepin' on.
Fantastic!!! I went to my second meeting today, and if my meeting location wasn't 40 minutes one way, I'd go more. I'm glad you found the same thing I did! It's truly refreshing, and nice to be surrounded by people that understand and feel the pain that alcoholism can bring.
It's like going through a divorce. No one can relate unless they, too, have been through a divorce. They can comfort and offer support, but they just cannot relate and give good solid suggestion.
Welcome and we are very happy you are here, and I'm very happy to share the new experience with others, like yourself, that are experiencing the rewards of going to an AA meeting!!!
Hugs to you!

Yay! I'm glad it was a positive experience. I always find myself laughing more often and more genuinely in AA meetings than almost anywhere else. It reinforces the notion that there is joy to be had in sobriety.
We are average Americans. All sections of this country and many of its occupations are represented, as well as many political, economic, social, and religious backgrounds. We are people who normally would not mix. But there exists among us a fellowship, a friendliness, and an understanding which is indescribably wonderful. We are like the passengers of a great liner the moment after rescue from shipwreck when camaraderie, joyousness and democracy pervade the vessel from steerage to Captain's table. Unlike the feelings of the ship's passengers, however, our joy in escape from disaster does not subside as we go our individual ways. The feeling of having shared in a common peril is one element in the powerful cement which binds us.
Congratulations on making it to your first meeting Realdealtoday and you too Marjoram on meeting #2
Thank you Carlotta - they read that today, and it sure made sense. Thank you for posting it for all to read. RDT - if you don't have a Big Book, be sure to get one - it's so full of information that is the core of what AA can do for us and what we can do for AA. I've enjoyed reading my copy since I received it last week.
Anxious to hear how things continue to go for you, RDT!
