Hi all, fist time poster. Just recently went off the booze after 20 some years. My emotions are running high! One moment Im super excited about what the future has to offer being sober. Then a few moments later Im totally dreading the thought a future with no drink. Havent had a drink since the 6th of this month. Getting twitchy. Thought it would help to come on a site like this and talking about it. Thanks for listening.

welcome 40rocks, good decision and congrats to you.

Just one word of caution. Don't expect everything to change immediately. Your body is not used to not having that old booze around. It will take some adjustment, but you'll survive as did many others. Good luck.
Keep posting and keep us up to date on how things are going. Read through some of the other posts and the 'alcoholism' forum. Lots of info and support here.

Thanks

Thanks for your support Brain. I think staying occupied is key. Occupied with what is the question as all that occupied me before involved alchohol. Im staying focused and avoiding the pitfalls but its hard. Will keep you posted.

Welcome to the family 40rocks. You'll like being here - we all know what you're going through.

I drank almost 30 yrs. I was terrified to let go of it, even though I knew it was killing me. I can't believe I thought it was helping me cope. It's so good to be rid of all the drama and misery it brought into my life. I'm glad you found us - you are not alone.

I drank for a long time, too. People here understand the pains and pitfalls of quitting.

Sleep probs

Are vivid crazy dreams part of quitting drinking? I dont think I have ever had dreams like these. When I do sleep I also wake up regularily. Is this common?

Vivid dreams were totally part of the process of early recovery for me. Hang in there!

Welcome! I also carried the disease for 20+ years before hitting bottom and setting it down. I realized I could not drink with others, and couldn't stay sober without others. SR is a great place to be with others 24/7. We need help, and this is a good place for us to find it, and there's more help for us out there, if we look for it. Be willing, be free.
