It's time to stop

I am a 33 yo female. I need to stop drinking. Moderation keeps failing me.

I came to that conclusion over three and a half years ago. Every sober day is a blessing.

I think that moderations always fails alcoholics, yet we continue to reach for it.

Stopping drinking is really a much easier way to deal with it.

Welcome to SR, glad you are here.

When I drank I could not control it and when I tried I was always angry and frustrated. Two drinks? Please.

I finally got to the point that I understood that it was the first drink that got me drunk. The first one started the compulsion to have another and another and another. One, is one to many.

The only way I can handle alcohol is to not have any.

Hi and welcome, so glad you have made the choice to try to abstain entirely, moderation just gives you a taste in my opinion and it just teases us into wanting more and more. Making this choice at such a young age is very wise indeed.

Welcome aboard.

Great to meet you Thelou. You found a great place to share how you're feeling, where everyone understands.

I could never moderate either - just wish it hadn't taken me decades to admit it. You can reclaim your life - we are with you.

You are giving yourself a gift to realize this early on. I'm another one that took decades to wise up. It's so ironic to find out you're able to stop entirely but aren't able to moderate.

It's a wonderful group here and you can share your ups and downs, get support, and realize you are definitely not alone!

For years I desperately tried moderation because I just couldn't fathom life without ever drinking again. It didn't work. It never works. Moderation and Alcoholic are two words that just don't seem to be able to live peacefully together.

Wow. Thank you all! Today was good. My husband and I even went on a date and I abstained! Putting my babies to bed and then off to bed for me. Day 1 down.
