Holiday weekends-how do you stay the course?
Holiday weekends-how do you stay the course?
For anyone like myself who has family events this weekend. I'm expecting that little AV jack@$$ to be a little more annoying today then usual. My guard is up! My plan is to eat a bunch, enjoy the sun/weather, play with the kids, help out, play ping pong or basketball, chat with family, etc… Any tips from anyone else on how to quell the urge to drink at family gatherings?? Thanks!
This is a great little post for all social occasions but especially family dos:
Crying Out Now: Thanksgiving Survival Guide
basically: plan ahead, have strategies worked out for all the likely scenarios and questions like - do you want a drink? why not?- and an escape plan if you need it.
Remember it's the first drink that brings everything else undone.

OMG Holli!!!
I needed to read that so much!!
Thank you.
I had the worst day ever yesterday with my family.
Although it is denied, my sister has appointed herself (for a few years now) family leader and mediator. She's the youngest and very spoilt, over praised and indulged.
We have 2 holidays coming up in Europe in the next few weeks. Big if you are reading please make me smile about this!!! I wrote that for you!!
We have had a text message warning that if this is not resolved maturely then the princess sister will not be happy.
I'm 40 by the way!
I work full time too and run and pay for a home too and I am a single mum to a 4 year old.
I think this will be 2 family fights I am invited to but will not be attending.
Thanks so much.
Any more words of wisdom like this would be appreciated!!

I'm also not attending the usual family reunions for a while.
Last event, my niece knew about my getting sober, and after the event she sent me a text that said "hope you are ok, you look weak"
I ran to the store and got plastered for 2 days.
Now I'm back to sobriety and I am not moving a foot outside my house if that's what it takes.
