I've done this a couple years ago (well over a few years because I really could not cut it all at once, was a slow process with many "relapses"). For me it was nearly as hard as getting sober from alcohol abuse (also because my relationship and alcohol were linked).

I would suggest, if this relationship is destructive, take care of it and not look back, if possible. For me, it wasn't only relapsing from it multiple times, but also then looking for similar in new experiences, in new people... never did any good. It was a co-addiction.

I know how tricky it is, stay strong!

Hang in there......good choices are often hard choices, but they are like planting bulbs in the fall......you dig, get dirty and plant this ugly thing in the ground only to walk away and get nothing in return for months.....but then with time, warm sun and water, one day you get this beautiful flower and you realize you have grown and changed and blossomed just like that bulb!
