Psychiatrist app. YEA!!!

Wow, I did it! I fretted for weeks. Waited two months for one Shrink, then he cancelled at the last minute because his wife was ill. And then I found this guy.
He was so easy to talk to. I told him everything I told you, including my trip to Alaska, parents, sister, husband, relapses, this website, etc. he asked a lot of questions. Then we were almost done and he says, I'm friends with Bill...me: who...him: you know Bill...me:no, I don't...him:Bill W..me: ok....him:that's code for AA...me: I'm such a dumb a$$...

Hahahaha. All this time looking for an addiction specialist and I find a shrink who is 19 years sober!!!! To give all of you credit where credit is due, yes, the doctor believes face to face conversations with other alcoholics makes the journey much easier. Just like a lot of you do! Congrats to SR on your sage advice about meetings.

Increased my dose of anti-depressants, thinks what I use now needs a bit of a boost. Nothing new, nothing weird. I go back to him at the end of the month.

Meanwhile I shall consider the advice on going to meetings. Thanks for all your encouragement always.

Love ya' bunches!!!

Wonderful news, Raider. Coincidence that you both know Bill - maybe not.

Hey Raider, glad to hear you've found the new psychiatrist sympathetic. Probably a little unusual that he shared with you his side of the issue at the first appointment. I know mental health professionals whose therapeutic philosophy includes (some) mutual exchange, just not the majority, I think. Hope he will be a good one for you. Must have been a relief to be through this appointment, I've followed how long you have been waiting for one.

Raider, your exchange with the shrink made me giggle. I enjoy your humor.

Bet you and this guy will be twerking in the Sunlight in no time. (Translated: I hope he turns out to be a great resource for you!)

I'm so happy for you, Raider! A good shrink makes all the difference, and the fact that he knows what it's like to be an addict is an added plus.

Hey Raider

Your post gave me hope. I am seeing a psychiatrist for the first time soon; pretty scared about it. I am so glad it went well for you. Thank you for sharing your experience =)

Hi Raider,

I sometimes find it relieving just to sit, just to be in the presence of others who have the same affliction as I do. I fundamentally disagree with much in the program of AA, but there are times I attend for the experience. I like to shake hands with a new shaky guy and let him know that life can get better. I let others carry the AA message to him though because my journey to sobriety took a different course.

Yes. That kind of information is best withheld. He told you because he decided that it would help you to know. Otherwise, there would be no good reason to tell you.

That's awesome, Raider! I'm glad you found a doctor that really understands addiction in a very real sense. It's fantastic to see the turnaround you've made in the last few months.
