Anyone with vitamin D deficiency?

My blood work shows low levels of vitamin D. Anyone else experience this? I follow up with my dr in 2 weeks. I've been researching how to raise levels naturally. Any advice?

Did your Dr give you a supplement or anything?

Mine was extremely low, too, even though I thought I should be getting enough through sunshine, my multivitamin, and fortified foods. My doctor recommended I supplement with 5,000 IU a day, which was effective in raising my levels, but there's still room for improvement.

Good for you for following up with your doc! It is amazing how important D3 is for healthy living.

The dr hasn't given me any supplements yet, as the results came back after my visit. I follow up with her in 2 weeks.

There was a good article in the New York Times about a D deficiency study. Sunshine and a clean diet are usually recommended. Embrace foods like kale and other vitamin d rich goodies.

Used a sun lamp all winter, but finally getting out with the dog. Nothing beats fresh air and sunshine.

My Naturopath dr gave me a liquid vitamin d to take as drops and it made a WORLD of difference. My depression went away and I felt so much more balanced and good. I buy my liquid vitamin d from Amazon.com, but if you google the name you can buy it from a number of companies. It's called D-Mulsion 1000 IU by Genestra Brands. I initially took 10 drops every day for one month, then my dr tested my levels and since they were above normal and I switched to 1 drop a day.

And the D-Mulsion is completely vegan/vegetarian as well. It's all natural with no added gluten, corn syrup, gelatin, animal products, or anything nasty!

This is the latest fad among doctors. After telling us all to stay out of the sun to avoid skin cancer, they figured out we aren't getting enough vitamin d. My level was very low, so my doctor put me on prescription 50,000 iu, and then had me follow up with 2,000 iu over-the-counter supplements. Your doctor will make a recommendation based on just how low your level is.

Dee is right. Sun exposure is the best source of vitamin d. For me, weather, latitude, and fair skin work against me, so I take supplements.

This is actually very easy to correct.

If you go to pretty much any grocery store and wander over into the supplements/vitamins section you should be able to get a 90 or 120 pill bottle of vitamin D3 for anywhere from $8-$12.

Make sure it's the 5000iu potency on the back of the bottle, read the nutrition facts. Don't settle for the weaker 1000 iu and 2000 iu variations, 5000 iu pills or else u dont buy it.

Take 1 or 2 softgels a day, whatever works for you.

Vitamin d3 is simply AMAZING....... and the good news is that it seems to be a lot like the water-soluble vitamin C, the body seems to be able to handle large amounts without too many issues.

Personally I have been taking 10,000 iu of vitamin d3 a day since around march 2013 and the last time i was sick was January of 2013. Tim ferriss is also a big fan of vitamin d3, in his book "the 4-hour body" he recommends around....... 8,000 iu daily if my memory serves me correctly?

Vitamin d3 is incredible, it seems to make you immune to most of the "generic" diseases like the cold, the flu, coughing diseases, runny nose, etc. Its true what they say, just give the human body "the basics" and it will take care of itself...... no need for big pharma, no need for chemicals, none of that kind of crap.

My vitamin D level was 7 when I got it checked a couple of years ago. My doctor put me on 10,000 IU D3. Got checked again after 6 months and level had increased to all of 16. Went to get more pills and talked to a pharmacist who told me to try 5000 D3 with 45 mcg K2. In 2 more months my D3 level was up to 65.
