Want to get sober

I'm 54 and have been drinking every night for a few years. I want to quit and am hoping to get support from this site. Today will be my first evening without.

First of all, welcome tlblock, and second, congratulations on deciding to not drink tonight! You will get tons of support from the great people here. They are mostly just like you, regular people who are trying to stop drinking or who already have stopped. I am about 10 days shy of two months. For me it was a little weird for the first few days, but I sure did notice an improvement of my life when I quit. No more headaches in the morning, no more telling myself I have to stop drinking (why didn't I just stop already!?), no more spending $$$ on wine, it goes on and on. It is so much better to be a former drinker. So welcome to the club and I hope you find that the many benefits of being sober totally outweigh the supposed advantages of drinking. The truth is there are NO advantages to drinking.

Also, if you think you could use some real live people to support your decision try going to an AA meeting. It's a pretty amazing resource!

Hi Tlblock.

Well done for making a life changing decision and one that will surely benefit you short and long term.

Remember to post when felling low at any point we have all been there and will help you through. Drink plenty water, seriously drink plenty.
All the best
Stuart.

Please do everything in your will not to....I wish I would have done that Saturday night instead of drinking 3 glasses of wine, and driving home. Only I did not get home, but to the police station for OVI. A serious wake-up call and not wished upon anyone

Things will change for you when you decide you want to BE sober. When this happens, you will decide to remove the possibility of drinking for you. And you can, you can do this. Keep posting!
