6 Months Today, Some Things I've Learned
1.Yes, it really does get better
2. I probably would still be drinking if I hadn’t started reading sober blogs like “tired of thinking about drinking” or SR (you are never alone with SR)
3. Pink clouds are great when they happen but don’t let yourself get too high, or too low.
4. Take H.A.L.T. to heart (i.e. don’t get too Hungry, too Angry, too Lonely, or too Tired)
5. Make a sanctuary for yourself and retreat to it as necessary (I’ll be in bed by 6 pm if I’m having a tough time)
6. 1, 30, 60, 90, or 180 days, this is still new in sobriety, calibrate your expectations (reading blogs helps with this).
7. Reward yourself often (bacon is always good!)
8. You can re-learn to enjoy the things you used to do without needing a drink in your hand.
9. Each good decision you make and every difficult situation you get through sober makes you stronger.
10. If you can think through that first drink, you can win the battle
11. Don’t let your AV or other people convince you that you never had a problem or that you can moderate now
12. Most people don’t drink as much as you think, or care that much if you don’t drink (if they do, you may have to let them go)
13. Don’t expect congratulations or praise for being sober, but accept it gracefully, because you deserve it
14. Any help you get pay if forward
15. Sober is the new black

Well done on a full 6 months, I have enormous respect for anyone doing what we are attempting, drinking is easier than not drinking so it is a real uphill battle for all of us, advice for anyone starting out on day 1 would be to forget about days, weeks, months as looking to far ahead makes us dizzy and the battle seems that much harder. I simply get out of bed and my target is to have no alcohol at all before climbing back into bed that same day. When a beer tempts my I just have a cup of tea which means about 15 cups a day but it works- find a happy place and do this for yourself, it is harder if you live alone or with someone who does not drink because they cannot appreciate the battle as days pass by. Good luck guys
