TOPIC: It Helps To Talk To Someone Who Gets It. Why?
Hi, Im Sharon and I'm an Alcoholic.
When I go to meetings and want to share,
I just say that phrase and emmediately get
a HELLO or WELCOME from the other
members seeking help and understanding
from those just like them.
What helped me to seek answers about
my addiction and receive guidance to
live life without alcohol was to talk to
others who get IT.
What is IT, you wonder.
IT is my own addiction and all the questions
I have about it's affects on me and receive
answers from others that understand what
it is to be an alcoholic because they have
been there and done many of the same
similar things I've done while under the
enfluence of a control substance. Alcohol
or drugs.
I needed and still need to be involved in
a recovery program and be connected to
others just like me who understand me,
because, like my own family, they didn't
understand my addiction and it's affects
on me and why I did the things I did while
under the enfluence.
YOU, on the other hand, GET ME.
Why is it so important for you to talk
to others who GET IT? GET YOU?

For more than 25 years I have had a voice in my head telling me that alcohol is the answer. The questions change every day, but the answer (according to that voice) is always the same.
Communicating with other people who hear that voice in their own head is instrumental to my plan for a sober life.

Good question Sharon. In the beginning of my sobriety I NEEDED to get it by going to many meeting where many were old timers who GOT IT and shared IT with newcomers. In doing so IT was a good remember when for themselves and for we who listened. It took me awhile but I finally GOT IT, I hope.
