My advice would be to keep yourself as busy as you can, avoid drinking buddies, drink gallons of water and eat as much and often as you can. That got me through the first week and now I'm just over a month sober. It feels great. I'm forty three with two kids myself. Welcome!
Hi Jason and welcome! Can't think of anything in life that doesn't improve when you take alcohol out of the equation -- health, wealth, parenting, relationships so good for you on deciding to quit.
Might be a good idea to get medical support if you've been a seriously heavy drinker for the first few days but you're 48h in now, so you need to judge how severe your withdrawal is.
The best, most succinct and often repeated advice I've seen on here is 'Make a Plan, Execute Plan' so yours may involve AA, other programs or SR boards. Or not, but what I do believe in is sobriety safety in numbers and the power of peer group support. Lots of that here, glad you joined x

Welcome Jason! My advice would be to go to as many AA meetings as possible and get to know other people who also quit drinking. When I first stopped drinking, having several people I could talk to who knew what I was going through was huge.
