this is all new to me. my son just started rehab and I need people to talk to who have been through this.

I'm not a parent nor do I have someone I love in my life who's an addict.. I'm a recovering alcoholic myself. But you will find much support and guidance here from people who's lives have been turned up side down by addiction ... I just want to say I'm glad your son is taking the first step to recovery and I'm wishing you and he strength in this new chapter.

I know this is difficult for you and you probably have lots of processing and healing to do as well. I have heard Al-anon has helped many deal with the pain and frustration of having a loved one who's an addict.

There is a great section called friends and family of addicted on SR.

Hope your son get's the help he needs. Stay strong, believe in him.

What is your son in rehab for? We have two separate forums; one for friends and family of alcoholics and one for friends and family of substance abusers. Lots of support there from people in similar situations.
