Without saying every detail, the point is that alcohol has been the primary (if not only) cause of all my major life problems. I am young, 26 and still in school and I do NOT want to have to hit rock bottom and ruin this just to change. In the last year I drank 6 times all with consequences. Truth is I am lucky to still have the love and support of family. I know that if I cannot find a way to commit to sobriety I will have monumental problems in life that will impede social, financial and personal growth.

You are young enough that you probably got a lot of "making good choices" talk in k-12. At first, it seemed like a load of **** to me, but now, I've changed my thinking. We all have choices (when we're sober). You are making the right choice by knowing you need to make a change. Maybe you can use that thought process when faced with drinking. You know the consequences of your drinking, and you have a choice. Unless you start drinking, then our alcoholism makes all the choices, and it is like the kid at school who was always making bad choices, was always in trouble, and who probably ended up dropping out. Don't be that kid! I know you can do it!
Thanks
Thank you for all of your support and kind words. I think "making the right choices" should be at the forefront of my mind and not just assumed as generic advice. Considering most of the bad mistakes started at 16-17 (about 10 years ago) I cannot imagine going through this over and over for life.
