I should say hello

Hello, my name is 😗

Today, while on my drive to work, it occurred to me that my father was a bigger jerk when sober vs drunk (and to be clear: he was a vicious drunk). Which led me to contemplate on the fact that even though I've been sober 148 days, there is a huge difference between sobriety and recovery.

I can do sober, but I have a long road ahead of me to recover.

Wishing all here joy, peace, whatever you need in sobriety, recovery...

Thanks for the welcome Kate, Dee, Heath. Sigh, I'm struggling right now - my dd will soon be going across the country to university, my son about to graduate - and I'm facing an empty nest with a man -I come to find out - I don't know at all. Heck, to be fair, I really don't know me either.

So I finally wised up to the fact I need people to commiserate with, who understand the pain, the path. Nothing beats standing on the shoulders of giants, except perhaps the chance to also forge kindred-ship with said giants - and giants in the making.

Thanks again. 🌞

You're right about sobriety v. recovery. In the past couple of decades, I've spent long periods - up to a year - sober, but never attempted recovery.

Sobriety is about abstinence.
Recovery is about growth.

Thanks again, to each of you for your welcome and outreach. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that the most difficult thing was admitting I needed help, and seeking help out. I've read so much here, and am still in a place where I feel I have little to offer in return, except perhaps an empathic ear/virtual hand/shoulder. - words fail me right now. But please know I hold each of you and your journeys in deep respect.

And a final thought, I ❤️ this Hero: "Sobriety is about abstinence.
Recovery is about growth." 👈
