Just beg. my withdrawal!
I am into day 3 of my withdrawal, no sleep, headache and vomiting. When does the toxins leave? Been drinking for 20 years, heavily for 10. Please what advice can anyone give me? I do not want to go to AA, that is why I have joined this support forum group. Today is my birthday and I am going out for dinner, I plan only to drink club soda. I don't want to go through the last few days again.
Welcome to Sober Recovery. If you are going to use SR as your recovery tool, I hope you take to heart the suggestions that are offered.
You plan to drink club soda...in a place that serves alcohol? Might be a little early in recovery to tempt the fates.
May I suggest you pick a place that doesn't serve alcohol...or forego even celebrating your birthday...those are milestones that are hard to stay sober for, especially if others are drinking and they want you to join in.

Welcome to SR. Sorry you are having such a rough time, but it will eventually get better.
Why don't you want to go to AA? I don't particularly care that you don't want to go, I rarely go to AA. I just don't want to suggest something that you'll reject for the same reason you're rejecting AA. It would be a waste of time for both of us.
Best of Luck on Your Journey!

Hi. I'm sorry for your pain, it might be a good remember when if your tempted to pick up that first drink again. As far as AA is concerned that's your choice though I don't think it would be near as bad as what your going through now. It's a place for people to help people similar to the help here but face to face.

Unfortunately, 10 years of heavy drinking isn't resolved in 3 days. It may take a few more days to slowly work back to normal. Happy Birthday and I hope you successfully follow through with your plan to drink club soda.
When I started my recovery, I wanted to be sober more than I wanted to drink. I would've gone to any lengths to succeed.
I had to make some hard choices. I couldn't be around alcohol, bowed out of any and all engagements involving it. Sure, it was lonely at times, but the pay off was so worth it.
I would gently suggest, celebrating your Birthday somewhere that doesn't involve alcohol.
Best Wishes and Happy Birthday rhodie!

Never hurts to see a Dr. regarding the withdrawal. Depending on how much you drank, withdrawal can on occasion be deadly. It's not something to take lightly.
How long it takes, really depends on your body and how much you were drinking.
I found the initial withdrawal seemed to be over after about 4 or 5 days. I judge that based on when I stopped sweating profusely.
It takes a lot longer for our brains and bodies to get used to not drinking. Heavy drinking causes a lot of damage and it takes a while for that to be repaired.
You might want to read up on PAWS or Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome: it's what you go through after the withdrawal is over and it's good to be prepared. Why We Don’t Get Better Immediately: Post-acute Withdrawal Syndrome (PAWS) | What…Me Sober?
I think it's fine not to want to go to AA: I don't and have just over 11 months. But it is important to be open-minded and willing to do what it takes to stay quit.

Happy birthday rhodie,
The longer you are sober the easier it gets!
You were a heavy drinker so is going to be tough a few days and then is over.
You can do it!!!!
Do not give up and keep fighting it slows down promise!
And life is so much better sober you can not miss it.
If you can not go out tonight it would be best you are only on day 3....
Or celebrate at home and bring take away.
I did it that way so I did not have to face a bar or a drinks menu!
And I was so scared to have a sober birthday...
I did not know how to have a sober birthday...
but at the end I enjoined myself and sober so was double happier
Is going to be hard,
But is worth it!
Hope you make it tonight lots of support,
Aiko

Lots of good advice here Rhodie.
Happy Birthday
I wasn't actually well enough to go anywhere on my day 3 so you're doing better than I am.
I think Carl's suggestion of a non alcoholic restaurant is great.
Have a good sober night.

Thankyou for your kind advice and in future that is what I will do! I have to admit that I felt great not having anything and then being the designated driver, something I have not done for a long time. I guess I did not want to hurt feelings, as this was preplanned. What I should have done is mentioned that it would not be appropriate for me.

Your words are soooo encouraging and yes I will keep going and keep going. This is the 1st time in a long time that I have come home sober. My birthday out was around 4pm and was home by 5:30pm SOBER. Feels wonderful that I can remember this day and hopefully every birthday from now on. Having this forum before I was committed to go out, helped me get through that 1 1/2 hrs.
