first post, almost on day 3

Hi all. Been following this forum sence monday night (the first night i dicided i was done with drinking). I have been drinking myself to blackout state every day for 4 years. I am 25, turning 26 this month. Also was a chronic pot user with potiant oils daily and decided i needed to get straight on the substance abuses that have been plaguing me. My last drink was sunday night and have been clean of substances for roughly 65 hours. Sleeping is basically a joke and i have gotten maybe 8 hours of sleep the last few days and in a sweat soaked bes at that. I feel substantially better from the first 48 hr but still have anxity and i assume trobble sleeping tonight. But one thing that has really helped ME with anxity is praying and reading the bible. Still got a long way to go but wanted to share my short journey so far. Oh and sence i have cut out the marijuana, i have has barely anything to eat the last few days as food makes me feel very nauchous. Thanks in advance for the support!! About 6 more hours till i hit my day 3 mark! Yay!

YAY, Higgins! I'm on Day 4, and last night was the first night I got a really good sleep, and it was wonderful. Hang in there, it will get better. To help me sleep, I drink Sleepy Time Extra Tea, Tension Tamer Tea, and hot milk with honey. The trick is to get the milk REALLY hot first (you can let it cool off before you drink it though.) Something I did differently last night was cut off the computer by 7:00 PM, and read. I don't know if that helped, but I'm going to try again tonight.

Welcome Higgins! Great job on your almost Day 3.

I'd give anything if I had stopped in my 20's! Instead I kept trying to control my drinking, even though I knew I was in danger. My life was nearly destroyed. Glad to have you join us - I think it'll really help you to be here where we all understand what you're going through.

Welcome, youre doing well, your sleep will improve and night sweats are common, they pass within or under a week usually, keep posting, its a brilliant forum with very supportive ppl, all have been through a difficult journey one way or another and are fighting to get through the other end, and plenty have and post on here.

The ppl on here have been an inspiration to me and I dont think Id have stayed sober without them. Keep strong

Thanks a lot guys, means more than you know (atually for a lot of you know exactly how much the support means). I also went to AA but, for me, i found it hard to open up to strangers but this site is a real help. Lots of active members. Durring the day i am usually fine...its when it gets dark and i cant sleep and feel like im going crazy. Going on long walks durring the day and other physical activities seem to help me relax but not fall asleep...at least ao far but i know i need to just stick with it!

Welcome, and good for you for making the decision to live a sober life. I'm glad you're starting to feel a bit better. I know the not sleeping is really tough. Do you have something light that you can read or maybe watch some tv for awhile?

Made 4 days. Thank you Dee74 for helping me think twice about toking tonight. I am going to bed soon (hopefully) but really think if you are down and need a higher power to help lift you up, listen to this song...one of my favorites and up until today, never looked at it as if its directed toward addicts.

Opps, can post links yet...search "thrice - come all you weary" I promise you will get peace from it...very well written lyric wise and instrumental wise too.

Lyrics:
Come all you weary with your heavy loads
Lay down your burdens, find rest for your souls
'Cause my yoke is easy and my burden is kind
Ill take yours upon me and you can take mine

Come all you weary, move through the earth
You've been spurned fine restaurants, kicked out of church
Got a couple of loaves, so sit down at my feet
Lend me your ears and we'll break bread and eat

Come all you weary, come gather 'round near me
Find rest for your souls

Come all you weary, crippled you lay
Ill help you along, you can lay down your canes
Weve got a long way to go but well travel as friends
The lights growing bright further up, further in

Come all you weary, come gather 'round near me
Find rest for your souls, rest for your souls

Come all you weary, come gather 'round near me
Come all you weary, come gather 'round near me
Find rest for your souls, rest for your souls
Rest for your souls, rest for your souls

I grew up with this band and have seen them more times I can remember over the last 10 years.

Thanks for all your help and check out the song, very uplifting!
