need help and information

I just found out tonight that my wife has been a perscription drug user for 4 years. I am completely blindsided by this. She is in a good treatment center, but I am left trying to figure out how i missed it for so long, and why I would have thought that she had mental problems and not seen the drug problems. Any insite would be welcome. I am just not sure what I am supposed to do at this point.

Thanks,
Alan

Red face welcome to SR

Your wifes addiction is not your fault. We addicts can be pretty tricky in hiding what we are doing and it is great she is in a treatment center.Sometimes treatment centers have programs that include the family as well. They call addiction a family disease as it effects everyone.I am so sorry for your pain right now. There is a nar-anon and ala-non forum that you might wanto check into here. There are some great people there.Best of luck to you and your wife.God-bless !

Yes, we addicts are sneaky devils! :saroll: Drug problems ARE mental problems in part, plus addiction frequently occurs with other psychiatric diagnoses, PLUS addiction can mimic other mental problems, so it's no wonder you may have been confused. Consider attending some Nar-Anon or Al-Anon meetings in addition to checking out those forums here. Like Trish said, you are NOT responsible for your wife's addiction and the best thing you can do is learn to take care of YOU. Wish you both the best!
