Gotta family friend who is a former dug user and alcoholic taking me to an AA meeting this wwednesday. I feel like I have a better plan this time round! More people around me to support me, all my mates know not to invite me to the pub or bring booze to the house etc
But im a little nervous I don't know why but im a bit scared to go to the meeting! I will go just stating im not TOO excited about it lol

Just one piece of advice. If you get a chance, let people know it is your first meeting. I think your friend will agree that this is a good idea. BTW, it's normal to be anxious about going. It's also normal to wonder why you were, when the meeting is over. Welcome, and all the best to you.

Good for you to investigate something that has the fear of the unknown attached to it. Many think AA is some sort of religious organization which it is NOT. I've never been religious and I've been attending +30 years and in the thousands I've met I have no idea if they are or not. The main thing we need is help from something or someone else out side ourselves. Many have a fear of talking in a group which is fine and there are no rules saying you need to. You MAY say I'm Don and that's all, no fear. The only requirement for membership is a desire to be sober. It's that simple.

I was afraid to go through the doors my first time as well, but something inside me told me that the answer I was looking for was behind those doors. I went in with an open mind knowing that it couldn't be any worse there than it was on this side of the doors! I now look forward to my Tuesday meeting because I know that someone is going to share something that will make me stronger...

I think that early recovery is scary for most of us. I didn't use AA but I was very scared to face the things I had to deal with. It sounds like you have good support. Let us know how the meeting turned out for you.

while waiting, you can read the 1st 164 pages of the big book and find out what AA has to offer.

It is normal to feel nervous about going to AA for the first time. It's a new venture for you. You wont be attending alone right? You will have someone with you. Just sit and listen and in no time you will want to participate and you will feel comfortable. Tons of support there for you. Enjoy.
