What will happen if you don't drink today?

Can you call someone who is sober and just talk to them? Reaching out can be a lifesaver.

Any AA meetings on where you live, anybody to talk to?? . . . we've all been there on Day 4, so you can be reassured that it can be done!! . . . but you gotta figure out how to get past the cravings!!

Break the day down into 1 hour or 30min slots, and get through them 1 at a time. Don't view it as never drinking for the rest of your life, that's too much to handle right now, that thinking early on can create too much anxiety, simply your not going to drink TODAY, you just have to make it until bedtime, and then tomorrow you get another TODAY!!

Keep pushing through!!

Unless you find another way to deal with them.

What will happen if you do drink today?

Find an AA meeting and go. Don't say a word, just listen

Make sure you aren't hungry...eat and drink fluids if you haven't been

Take a nap if you are tired

Call a friend or family member and just talk.

That void is alcohol, taking something out of life and expecting things to feel the same or not a bit strange is unrealistic.

It's like breaking up with a bf or gf, the next few months after feel weird and all that time you spent together will be filled with nothing for a while!!

Hi Chill-

Being on day 4 it is expected that you will feel all the things you are describing and cravings are a B***h!!!! However, they don't last forever and neither will what you are experiencing right now.

Once you stay sober through this you will begin building up your resolve and your confidence. You will know you can do this

Sobriety gets easier and it gets so much better.

Four days is very early and of course you want to drink, you've barely dried out. Give yourself more sober time for your feelings to even out a bit. Whatever you do, don't give in to the cravings.

Thans everyone for the support, I just had a mad few hours but had a 30 min sleep and feel a bit better, just drank a pint of water. Man I was SO close to drinking yet so glad I didn't!

good job Chilledice.... sometimes those moments rear up and get suuuper hard. Well done getting through it without drinking, and it's a little better now, right?

I keep some fancy waters on hand... San Pellegrino blood orange is a good option. Something alternative you can turn to in a craving and actively turn your focus toward something healthy can really be a big help.

Keep up the great effort!

it's worth it

It is indeed a little better, I have no idea where the craving came from but it hit me like a ton of bricks and exhausted me both physically and emotionally!

I like flavoured water too
