Wedding today

Hi all, I am attending a wedding today, lots of family dynamics at this wedding.

For reasons I won't go into now it has the potential to be a tough day.

I am about 3 and a half months sober and use SR and AVRT.

I really want to remain alcohol free, however with the huge emotional impact of this day, I am aware that can change impulsively within seconds.
I am very happy that you are all here to allow me to express my fears and reservations about the day.

I will tell my AV where to go today when she shows her skanky self, I will not drink today...

You can do to this. We've got your back. Remember you can take a time out any time you want, even if it is just to run to the rest room for a couple minutes to regain your thoughts. Also, you don't need to stay until the end of the reception when things get sketchy.

Thanks Snipe, I can leave early and I will, I was thinking that as soon as the formalities are over I will leave...

At nine months sober, I went to a wedding, my step son's, and I was dreading it because my wife's ex-husband and his family would be there. I was the interloper. The discomfort was going to be excruciating, I was sure, and drive me to drink.

Well, it wasn't as bad as I thought. Didn't drink. Didn't really feel like it either. I learned that discomfort wouldn't kill me and that prepared me for the next time I would have to face it, without alcohol.

So bear in mind that nothing at the wedding/reception can make you drink. And beat a hasty retreat.

Good luck, Notime. I am confident that you can do it. It's good that you have a plan to leave early. Plan a treat (non-alcoholic) for yourself for when you get home!

Thanks doggonecarl, I get it and that's what I am going to hang onto. Amazing the power that we can give other people...needing a drink just to cope with being around them.
I won't drink today.

Best to you! Let us know how it goes. Sounds like you are well aware of the potential triggers. You can do it!

Notimetoloose, always have a non-alcoholic drink in your hand.... cuppa tea / coffee or soft drink ..
