Let Me Introduce Myself

First off, BarDown is not a booze reference it's a hockey reference. Those that know will get it.

I'm married and have two teenage kids. My wife is about to divorce me because of my alcoholism and she directed me to this site to see if this will help me recover. I went through a treatment program last year and was sober for 4 months and I never felt better. I can't really explain why I started drinking again, but I do know that it's been hell for my family and of course me.

I lost both my parents to this disease and I feel like I am headed down the same path. I'm not going to lie....I like the feeling of having alcohol, but I hate how I feel the next day and the pain I am inflicting on myself and my family. Hopefully the latter will be enough to get me sober permanently.

Any advice is welcome.

Have you any support in real life? Have you considered AA or another program of recovery? What about counseling? There are many ways to stay sober. Find what works for you and work it like your life depends on it - because it does.

Welcome BarDown

As you've seen, getting sober is one thing - staying sober is another.

I had to change a lot of my life to stay sober, because a lot of my old life was all about drinking...

Luckily none of us need to do this alone - you'll find amazing support and wisdom here
