It's almost the end of the day for me, and the temptation to stop at the store to pick up a bottle of wine is starting to creep into my thoughts. Any encouragement would be much appreciated.

Don't do it Natalie! No need for it! I got a killer wine craving this evening and I had a big glass of chilled Sprite mixed with some raspberry cordial. It was fizzy, refreshing and it surpisingly seemed to work...I recommend!
Hi natalie!
the wine would just be a temporary fix and you'll end up with nothing but regret, just like when your dieting and wanna eat junk food, don't do it, I really like randummy's suggestion!

Thanks, everybody. I am going to get in my car, and go straight home! I would go with Randummy's suggestion, but that would entail stopping at the store to buy Sprite and raspberry cordial. I'll buy those to have another day when I'm feeling stronger. Ice cream, on the other hand, I already have at home... Thanks again all!

Anything with sugar really helps with cravings. I find that particularly something naturally sweet helps me the most. I usually drink orange juice when I have a craving. It seems to work. If that isn't enough, ice cream is always good.
Hi all! I made it home safe, and I got into my sweats to avoid the temptation of going back out. My beautiful girls and wonderful husband are here with me, and I'm helping them with their homework (the girls, not my husband!) You all are the best.
p.s. The ice cream is going down very nicely with Girl Scout cookies.

Early in recovery I latched onto a mental trick, which worked especially well during that last few hours of the day. And that was to shift my attention to a new mental image, which was me putting on comfy clothes, and climbing into bed with a glass of chocolate milk. That was often enough to weaken the cravings, or at least to replace the craving for a buzz with a craving for simple coziness.
Dorky, but it worked. I can see how ice cream and thin mints would work well, too.
One other trick: perspective. I'd pull out of the moment and realize, hey, we're only talking about a few hours. That's it—all I had to do was hit those pillows sober. When I realized it was just a few hours, and that the reward would be a lifetime of freedom, it made the choice ridiculously clear. And it became equally clear that a few hours of cravings were really not a big deal, not in the big scheme of things.
