Migraine Help
So I'm about 5 months sober have a history of migraines. Now when I get migraines I can no longer take the narcotics that I was once able to. I am getting acupuncture and massage therapy. Too bad that are not readily available on the weekends. Would it be wrong to call in my prescription of Percocet and have someone manage it for me? This migraine has lasted the entire weekend and I have yet to find any relief. I am open to home remedies also. I just need the pain to stop so that I can go on with my daily living. I welcome your comments.

I have not been to a migraine specialist. I will look into that. Alcohol was my drug of choice. I am so scared of anything mood altering because I know the risk it would be. I have survived all day and the in call dr. made a note to give to my dr. on Monday. Thank you for your response.

Try to make an appointment with a specialist. I don't have regular migraines but had a few attacks in the past during an extremely stressful period of my life (which also involved heavy drinking) so have some idea how bad they can get. Have a few friends though that have struggled with chronic migraines for many years and seems like they have managed to find good treatment solutions. As you probably know, there are quite a few different types of migraines and lots of treatment options, medications and others. A good specialist could work with you figure out something suitable also considering your specific migraine triggers and the addiction risk.
Good luck with that and also with your sobriety! 5 months is awesome

I have migraines and have fioricet that I can take, but since becoming sober I am more reluctant to take it and have been using Excedrin Migraine formula with really good results. You may be thinking as I was "an over the counter remedy will never work for me" but I tried it and was pleasantly surprised...it really works! Plus I don't have to feel guilty as it's not a controlled substance, so I don't have to feel like I am compromising my sobriety when I take it, as I'm trying to be free of anything like that (even though I have not ever abused meds, just alcohol.)
