Priest refuses to marry couple - groom showed up drunk

Just saw this story on the news. Not much online about it. Groom showed up wasted to his wedding and the priest said he wasn't going to perform the ceremony when the groom was drunk.

The ex-groom was interviewed - in his ripped suit pants, still drunk, whining and embarrassing himself. Apparently the ex-bride has said it's all over, good for her!

Good call. And sounds like the girl was well counseled too. Consequences are a positive thing for addicts.

Kudos to that minister. And most especially, good for the bride on saying "NO chance for reconciliation".

WoW---this reads like something off our QUACKERS thread.

The bride should send a nice note of appreciation to the priest....

What a load of cr*p ... all he could think about was his woman and her feeling like a queen? More like all he could think about was his own selfish wants.

My AH was half drunk at our wedding - wish I'd had some sense back then or someone had it for me

Good for him and it looks like she dodged a serious bullet
“All I wanted was my woman to feel she was queen of the day, man.”
yep and showing up on her big day drunk like a skunk is a way to make her feel good about herself...she must have been dying of embarrassment poor thing.

I was told by a friend who attended my ex's wedding to the other woman that he too was drunk and swaying during the wedding. Friend said it was like a surreal experience and was surprised the priest married them.

He sounds like a hot mess. Good for the priest and the almost-bride is sure lucky that the priest called it off!!! She almost married that fool!

Gosh. Sounds like she broke free from her
own denial just in the nick of time...
Still, though....
What a shame....

Wow...sounds like two people made the absolute best decision for the bride: the priest and the bride!

This actually helped make my day!

I can't believe how he was crying and wailing about his "woman" and all that. If he regarded his "woman" so highly he wouldn't have showed up drunk for his wedding. Jerk. She's well rid of him.

Did you know in California it's grounds for annulment if one is under the influence of drugs or alcohol? I'd bet it's grounds as well for a religious annulment. Why would a minister or judge proceed with the ceremony if it was obvious?
