Say Something Lyrics - Codie Song!!

A Great Big World
Say Something lyrics

Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'll be the one, if you want me to
Anywhere, I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you

And I am feeling so small
It was over my head
I know nothing at all

And I will stumble and fall
I'm still learning to love
Just starting to crawl

Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
Anywhere, I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you

And I will swallow my pride
You're the one that I love
And I'm saying goodbye

Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
And anywhere, I would've followed you

Say something, I'm giving up on you

Say something

CODEJOB---every time I hear that song...I think the same thing!!!

A real tear jerker that everyone trying to hang onto someone can relate to!!!!!!!

I WISH that I had written it....It is going to be a "classic".....and I sure could use the cash..

Right there with you codejob. I hear them all the time.
I hadn't heard Barry Manilow's "Can't smile without you" for years. it was on the radio last week and my first thought was "now there's a codie song"

You know I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel sad when you're sad
I feel glad when you're glad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile without you

You came along just like a song
And brightened my day
Who would have believed that you were part of a dream
Now it all seems light years away

And now you know I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel sad when your sad
I feel glad when you're glad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile without you

Now some people say happiness takes so very long to find
Well, I'm finding it hard leaving your love behind me

And you see I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel glad when you're glad
I feel sad when you're sad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile without you

How about Bruno Mars? I listen to this song and I go "Yep. That was me. Funny how you can clearly see the dumbassery in someone else but not in yourself."

Easy come easy go, that's just how you live
Oh, take, take, take it all but you never give
Should've known you was trouble from the first kiss
Had your eyes wide open, why were they open?

Gave you all I had and you tossed it in the trash
You tossed it in the trash, you did
To give me all your love is all I ever asked
'Cause

what you don't understand is
I'd catch a grenade for ya
Throw my hand on a blade for ya
I'd jump in front of a train for ya
You know I'd do anything for ya
oh oh oh oh

I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through my brain
Yes, I would die for you, baby
But you won't do the same

No, no, no, no

Black, black, black and blue, beat me 'til I'm numb
Tell the devil I said, hey, when you get back to where you're from
Mad woman, bad woman, that's just what you are, yeah
You'll smile in my face then rip the brakes out my car

Gave you all I had and you tossed it in the trash
You tossed it in the trash, yes, you did
To give me all your love is all I ever asked
'Cause

what you don't understand is
I'd catch a grenade for ya
Throw my hand on a blade for ya
I'd jump in front of a train for ya
You know I'd do anything for ya
Oooh
I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through my brain
Yes, I would die for ya, baby
But you won't do the same

If my body was on fire
Ooh, you'd watch me burn down in flames
You said you loved me, you're a liar
'Cause you never, ever, ever did, baby

But darling, I'd still catch a grenade for ya
Throw my hand on a blade for ya
I'd jump in front of a train for ya
You know I'd do anything for ya

I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through my brain
Yes, I would die for you, baby
But you won't do the same

No, you won't do the same
You wouldn't do the same
Ooh, you never do the same
No, no, no,oh

I change the station every time this song comes on (especially when I was in the car with (R)ABF). Not because I don't like it but because it hits a little too close to home!

While my rAH was in rehab that song (Say Something) came on the radio repeatedly (I was driving to Florida from Canada for a holiday over Christmas - and every radio station we tuned into was playing it). I had many tears in my eyes on that drive.

As I drove home from rehab with rAH in the car - what song comes on the radio as we approach home ... yep - this one! I also heard it when driving him to a counselling appt.

Then - my oldest daughter (12) who is very musical decided she needed to be able to play it on the piano too as she LOVES this song. She sat down and figured it out for the most part by listening to it. So now I hear it over and over on the piano too ...

And things are very awkward in our house ... I really feel like rAH and I are not going to make it. This song just adds to the ache in my heart

That song destroys me. It hits way too close to home and tears my heart out.

I find the song 'Say Something' sad because it's the singer acknowledging that the relationship is done. I don't equate it to a codie song. I hear it as some one saying they don't know how to help, they're giving up and leaving the relationship: "Anywhere, I would've followed you." Would have, as in, no longer. I hear it as an acknowledgement that nothing the singer does will get through to the person and they're done. They're sad, they're sorry, but there's no changing it, they can't follow, it's done.

I thought co-dependency was about holding onto a relationship so tightly that it becomes more important than your/our/my self. Which would make the codie-with-an-addict song more along the lines of: I'll keep on trying everything I can think of, you're the reason I breathe, I'll keep trying to help, I'm strong enough to help you, I'll keep on holding on to us ...

Or I guess it's an interpretation thing. Maybe? Like in French class when we read, interpreted, and discussed the poem "Déjeuner du Matin" by Jacques Prévert. Even though the English translations were pretty much the same, one student spoke about a son with his mother and another about a boyfriend leaving his girlfriend. IDK...

Maybe that student had mommy issues?

Totally joking!!!

I also don't feel like its a song about codependency but just about loving an addict and then letting then go. Not all who love addicts are codependent I guess, but it certainly seems to be a popular theme.

Um, yeah, the class discussion kind of helped end the crush I'd been nursing.

I've been listening to Pandora today and found a song that I hate. It's strong word. I try to not use it, because, generally "I don't care for it" fits better, but this one...

Use Me by Bill Withers

My friends feel it's their appointed duty
They keep trying to tell me
All you want to do is use me
But my answer, yeah to all that use me stuff
I want to spread the news
That if it feels this good getting used
You just keep on using me
Until you use me up
Until you use me up

My brother sit me right down and he talked to me
He told me that I ought not to let you just walk on me
And I'm sure he meant well
Yeah, but when our talk was through
I said, brother, if you only knew
You'd wish that you were in my shoes
You just keep on using me
Until you use me up
Until you use me up

Sometimes, it's true
You really do abuse me
You get me in a crowd of high-class people
And then you act real rude to me
But, oh baby, baby, baby, baby,
When you love me, I can't get enough
I want to spread the news
That if it feels this good getting used
Girl, you just keep on using me
Until you use me up
Until you use me up
Talkin' 'bout you usin' people
It all depends on what you do
It ain't too bad the way you're usin' me
'Cause I sure am usin' you to do the things you do
to do the things you do

It completely reminds me of why I stayed with AXH for so long. Because when he was good to me, he was so, so sweet. And I'd look past all of the nasty cr-p he pulled, tried to forget it, when that sweet 'side' showed up. Those hooks and pulls. And I hate that I did.

CodeJob - Ha! I can't believe you posted this. I was just listening to it in the car yesterday, crying my eyes out driving down the road. I felt pathetic but it was a good release at the same time. Thanks.

Just heard this one on the radio tonight and thought, ouch!...it's Rihanna's "Stay".

All along it was a fever
A cold sweat hot-headed believer
I threw my hands in the air, said show me something
He said, if you dare come a little closer

Round and around and around and around we go
Ohhh now tell me now tell me now tell me now you know

Not really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can’t live without you
It takes me all the way
I want you to stay

It’s not much of a life you’re living
It’s not just something you take, it’s given
Round and around and around and around we go
Ohhh now tell me now tell me now tell me now you know

Not really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can’t live without you
It takes me all the way
I want you to stay

Ohhh the reason I hold on
Ohhh cause I need this hole gone
Funny you're the broken one but I’m the only one who needed saving
Cause when you never see the lights it’s hard to know which one of us is caving

Not really sure how to feel about it
Something in the way you move
Makes me feel like I can’t live without you
It takes me all the way
I want you to stay, stay
I want you to stay, ohhh

Before I had my talk with my AH, we were on our way to my dad's for christmas. I was angry, hurting, couldn't stand to be next to him and there I was driving the 6 hours in bad weather because he didn't have a license. Every time that song came on I sang it loudly, along with Brave, Roar, and any other song I thought expresses what I was feeling but couldn't say. I don't know if he ever got it over the course of 12 hours to dad's and back. If he didn't he's dumber than a box of rocks!
