Thoughts

I just started thinking today, that it's very interesting to me that we emphasize the use of Alcohol as something important. I've constantly have to explain to people why I don't drink and a lot of people don't understand it unless you tell them you are an alcoholic. If I just tell them that I don't have any interest or feel like drinking I get suspicious looks. If I tell them I abstain for health or other reasons the same reaction. But if I tell them I have a drinking problem then it's all understood and I get support. My point is, even if I didn't have a drinking problem, I'm not interested in drinking at this stage in my life. I just don't have any use for it and don't see the point in drinking. It's expensive, it is unhealthy and it's a downer and causes anxiety later. So why is so many people preoccupied with drinking? I guess I'm just tired of the drinking phobia.

Anyway, I'm coming up on seven months next week so I'll concentrate on that. Thanks for listening to my rant.

Congrats on you 7 months. 1967? you must be my age. Some of my friends don't drink and some do. When I was in my 20's everyone of my friends did. It hasn't been a problem for me to say no in social situations.

Congrats on seven months!

Most people don't seem to understand addiction. And I'll bet that a lot of the people who give you suspicious looks when you say you don't drink have problems themselves. Normal people don't care if you drink or not.

You get old enough and you no longer have the peer pressure.

I'm glad you're doing well.

I don't offer any explanation to people as to why I don't drink. 'No, thanks' has worked well for me.

When people ask me why I don't drink I say "It's not a good drug for me". Usually that kills the conversation. It's a drug. It's a socially acceptable, colorfully packaged, and well advertised drug, but it's just a drug. Frankly no drugs are good for me ... except my green tea.

Congrats on 7 months!

I am like others I just say no thanks. However, when someone asks you why you aren't drinking you can always come back with "well why are you drinking". Answer a question with a question .
