Exclamation ugh. why is this so freaking hard????

So, I am on day 21 of my sobriety. Things have been going well.

I am sitting here at work on a rainy, cold Friday evening and all I can think of is how - can stop at the Organic market and grab a chilled bottle of Sauvignon Blanc.

I know I can't have it. If I have a drink I will wind up in trouble of some kind. It is an awful idea. I will NOT do it. But I can't stop thinking about it.

And I plan to go to the store too.

Ugh. Just so frustrated.

Hang in there Nicole, rather than thinking about sitting at home drinking that wine, plan a different routine, going home to do another activity, maybe a long walk.

Simply eliminating alcohol, just creates sitting at home thinking about alcohol, you've gotta fill your time with something else!!

Cravings pass.

You do not have to give into them, just wait them out.

Congrats on the 3 weeks

Good going on three weeks sober. You are strong enough to withstand this temptation.

It's only hard in the beginning. It gets easier as you go along.

I suggest you go to a different store for your groceries, or get take-out. Even if it's out of your way. Sometimes changing a habit that's highly associated w/a drink is a good idea, at least for a while. It's scary how that bottle can just find its way to your cart!

Have a great sober night!

I carried my memorized Serenity Prayer
with me where ever I went and still go
for just such emergencies.

In early recovery I learned that when
a drinking thought poped in my head,
it did me no good to fantasize or dream
about it, or even entertain those unwanted
drinking thoughts.

So going to the grocery store, I had my
list already in hand and the store mapped
out in my mind, with plans of going in to
get just what was on my list, don't lollygag
around and get the puck out of there as quickly
as I could.

Eventually over time it did get easier to
venture in the store, but I was always on
high alert with my program to tap into
when alcohol was lurking around the corner
isle.

Begin building a strong recovery foundation
each day to live upon so you will be prepared
for whatever life thows your way.

Congrats on 3 weeks Nicole. Courage makes some good suggestions - go to a different store (maybe one without alcohol?) or order take out and go shopping tomorrow when hopefully you'll be feeling secure again

Thanks everyone! I stopped at a different store (that still sells alcohol) and focused on buying Valentine's gifts instead of wine.
