Thank you everyone on this site for sharing your stories - they are so reassuring to me about how sinister and deceitful alcoholism is.

i am (was?) on the road to ruin and frankly said to myself that i had to stop denying this ... i've stopped for weeks or months at a time before but never with the resolve that i cannot ever drink again and that i am 100% powerless over alcohol (I am a slow learner)

well its been 10 days since drinking and no detox, no craving ... just had a thought "pop" into my head that said "see, you can stop easily, you don't have a problem, you can enjoy an occasional drink or even a bottle"

and for 5 seconds i thought, well, yeah, maybe ... WAIT NO! shut up! i know i can't moderate, i know its terribly bad for my health and thanks to so many people here i can read about all the various stages including where i was, where i am and where i will soon be if i drink again

Congratulations on 10 days free of it! It took me years to understand that I could never be sure what would happen once I swallowed that first drink. I cant believe I lived that crazy life for so long. Glad things are going well kluhs.

Ten days is great. As you get more sober time that voice will get fainter and fainter til you don't even hear it anymore.
