Food oh my
What I eat is really important to me. It took me a long sober time to realize how what I ate affected my physical well being, and more importantly, my moods and emotional well being. And it is my opinion that it is crucial for recovering addicts and alcoholics to learn to eat healthfully. For all people actually.
I didn't jump into sobriety with any thoughts about my diet, or intentions of changing anything. If anything, I needed to gain weight and thought it healthy at the time to over indulge as much as possible. Eat anything and everything. Then I learned how processed sugar was causing me anxiety, panic, and depression, and I felt forced to cut it out. Completely, for a while. I became interested in diet, started reading, learning, hanging with different people... and slowly over the years started changing things. I eat 1000x more healthfully now than I did 25 years ago, and have been eating like I now do for many years. And I don't miss anything.
There are a lot of great food documentaries on netflix that talk about how food effects us physically and mentally. I think they're great for inspiration. No need to quit anything immediately, unless physically necessary, but I think working towards a healthy diet a little over time really adds up. The Food we choose to eat is a lot more important than most people believe it to be.

YES my main "treatment" for cravings right now. But I try to keep it relatively healthy, ie. small snacks (eg. I'm going nuts on all sorts of combinations of nuts with spices etc) or just a normal meal, something I fancy in the moment.
Yeah, my appetite has sky-rocketed, but that could also be due to the 14-day Herbal Detox I am on from GNC as well.... I haven't been able to stay full for more then 3 hours at a time haha. I have been cooking like mad to keep up with my own appetite :p.
Indeed, and it was funny for a while, patted myself on the back that at least I wasn't drinking anymore. Not so funny now. Ugh, I have some work to do. If I can quit drinking I can do this!
I would tell anyone in early sobriety that they have a right to coddle themselves and go easy on themselves as much as they see fit. However, be careful as to how long the pattern lasts.
