Sobriety is a scary thing
Sobriety is a scary thing
Thanks DangerousDan. At your suggestion, I'm posting this here .
I'm new here and have been sober for 6 days. I think this is the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life. I'm 41 and started drinking at 14. I'm married and have 2 sons. The last straw came when I started having an online affair. My husband found about it. Now I'm not only dealing with trying to stay sober, I'm dealing with trying to salvage my marriage and forget about this other guy.
I'm going to start a program 2 nights a week and will try to get to some meetings as well. It's nice to have this online resource as well.
As someone said in another post, when I'm not drinking I don't feel like myself. I don't even know who "myself" is right now.

Welcome to SR Kim!
Boy do I get that! I was fearful of sobriety as well. I didn't think my life could revolve around sobriety ever. But I stuck it out and worked hard at and continue to do so and life just couldn't be better.
Glad your here!

Congratulations Kim for your sober days.
I'm 44, two kids, and with a marriage hanging by a thread.
I'm finding myself now that I'm in a program of rcovery. It feels great. I don't have to drink or use drugs anymore.
Gang's on the way.

Hi Kim,
Welcome to SR. I'm glad you found us.
I'm Anna, an alcoholic, who is still learning who she is and having a pretty good time doing it. There are some surprises along the way because I'm not quite the person I thought I was. You can stop drinking and we're here to offer you support.
Love, Anna

Hi Kim. I'm Marty, alcoholic. Many of us do not even think of recovery until somthing major happens in your life. Its the Rock Bottom. I have been there, many others have too. Your not alone in this!
Welcome Kim
Hi and welcome to SR. I am Roy..alcoholic. Sober for 11 days this time and boy can I relate to where you are at. I met my wife 7 years ago and of course, I was drunk. She fell in love with the "drunk" and is now getting to know me sober. Sometimes I dont even know who I am sober but I know that I cannot drink anymore. I am getting to know myself again also. I drank for 24 years and started at 12 so trust me, you are not alone. Looking forward to getting to know you better.
Hugs,
Roy

Hey Kim,
I've been sober for 19 days and I agree....sobriety is a scary thing. It's so scary to face all of the "issues" that I blew off with alcohol, while they continued to pile up into this mountain I now face. But, even with only 19 days I'm less depressed and the mountain is something I WANT to climb because I know that unless I do, my life will never be what it could.
Welcome.

Thanks for the welcome everyone . I've experienced what I thought was "rock bottom" many times, only to pick myself up and start drinking again. Hopefully this last one was it. I've also suffered from depression since childhood and have been on meds for several years now. I recently saw a doctor who changed my meds. I already feel a difference and I know that it's helping with the drinking as well.
