Happy Australia Day :)

I hope all the Aussies have a good day

Happy Waitangi Day to the Kiwis as well

Much love recognition and respect to the indigenous communities of both nations.

What exactly do you do on Aussie Day? Is is sort of like the US's July 4th? With fireworks? Or more like US Thanksgiving? Just curious.

Its a celebration of Australia as a nation. I guess Independence Day is a parallel?
It's generally a time for get togethers, a few fireworks, that kind of thing.

Thanks for the explanation, Dee. If it's anything like Independence Day in the US then that also means copious amount of alcohol. Many sober wishes coming to the Aussies & Kiwis tonight!

What do we do? We wish each other Happy Australia Day!

Leana it's more like July 4th I guess but we don't have our official independence yet. We operate autonomously but some people are a bit reluctant to cut the apron strings from Mother England although I think it will happen in the next decade.

Some people have barbeques, other people do nothing -- just like Independence Day I guess.

There are ferry races on Sydney harbour:

and lamingtons

and most importantly there is Dee: For all I know he's standing on the bow of a ferry eating lamingtons ...

I'am still trying to figure out...

...what a "Veggiemite Sandwich" is ???

I do know it comes from a "Land Down Under"...

...where women glow and men plunder".

Happy Aussie Day

Vegemite

Delicious Australian spread, made from used brewer's yeast. Non-Australians tend to give descriptions of it similar to 'tastes like a mixture of salt and battery acid'. This is because they are wimps, and need to drink more beer, eat more pies, and of course, eat more Vegemite.

We're happy little Vegemites, as bright as bright can be,
We all enjoy our Vegemite for breakfast, lunch and tea,
Our mummies say we're growing stronger every single week,
Because we love our Vegemite,
We all adore our Vegemite,
It puts a rose in every cheek.

Not disrespect to roos, but I almost hit one the other day driving to my mum's place. They have no road sense! I can't find an emoticon for almost hitting a roo - what gives?
