SOBER from alcohol
Hello! I am sober since August 2013. I started drinking at 14 yrs of age. I never stopped from that point on. But hard to get any at that age. So not much drinking. I remember I was 15 and started drinking whiskey. Age 16 I had older friends buy it for me no problem. So from then on alcohol readily available for me. Parties with a half barrel beer tucked under the pier at lakefront, etc. Lotta fun it was. Never stopped. My alcoholism progressed slowly until now my age is 45. I think I was an alcoholic the first time I got drunk and realized I could use alcohol to alter my mood or behavior. I started binge drinking along the way. First time I started that I remember I was 25. I truly believe alcohol is a demon that resides permanantly in my brain. I think alcohol is a demon because it lies to get u into its grips. And then it sneakily starts stealing your life away. Its just evil. I wish I could never crave the crap ever again. I would like to write to people like myself here. Thanks for listening....
evil spirits in a bottle
"spirits" available here
yes for us, those may just very well be "evil spirits in a bottle"
one thing that I do not agree with you
the demon is not (permanently) in your brain
we can be rid of the demons with hard work on our side
and understanding of how they work on their side

Thanks
Hi everyone and thanks again for your welcoming posts to me! I wish I could edit out my comment that alcohol is a demon to me...only because I don't want people to think I'm a bit off or strange. But alcohol does call out to me all.the time. In my dreams which I hate. When I see a liquor store or bar...if there's a cooler full of beer next to me at a party. Its in my inner thoughts always. Telling me..go on, go in and buy a huge bottle. And while you're at it, buy 2 because you're here anyways! I'm learning to just ignore it. But it is really strange how I constantly notice liquor stores. A bar I could care less I preferred to just drink alone. I think that's how I developed into being a binge drinker.
Welcome archenemy. Thank you for a helpful post - congratulations on your 5 months sober.
I still had thoughts about drinking for a few months after quitting - but eventually they all faded. It rarely even crosses my mind now - and that's amazing since I once lived for it. I think we go through many phases as we adjust to our new sober life - and things will continue to improve. Happy you joined us.

Yeah...and I'll have to look up where the term spirits came from. I think its an old term. And why spirits? Alcohol lifts your spirits in the beginning. So misleading. U know a funny one? I used the word CORDIAL.in a post here. I was just curious I looked up word. Cordial means gracious like I thought..but it also means alcoholic beverage. A cordial. Another old time word. So from what I gather..alcohol lifts your spirits and you'll be a gracious person. That is a joke to me..
Why is Alcohol Called Spirits?
Answer
There is no actual defined answer on why alcohol is called spirits. Many people think that it because alcohol considered is holy. Other people believe that you gain someone elses spirit when you drink alocohol. The main beverages that are called spirits are vodka, whisky, brandy and gin.
actually theres a perfectly good linguistic reason.
Spirit comes from Latin ‘Spiritus’ or 'Spirare' meaning breath or essence.
Spirits as alcohol refers to the distilling process (distilling of the ethyl alcohol vapour given off when boiling occurs).
Turpentine was once referred to as Spirits of Turpentine for the same reason.

welcome. glad you've joined us.
we can definitely change and sober life is honestly wonderful.
you are spot on. alcohol is truly evil, i think it's one of the most evil and dangerous substances ever created. and our society treats it as though it's something glamorous. (to me it's no better or worse than some of the hardest drugs on the street). one difference -- it's legal. and we have establishments made for the sole purpose of getting messed up on this drug. is that really any different than opium houses of the old days?
it will slowly kill you and steal your life away. going through life drunk is no way to live.
