Day 3 no symptoms

So today is beginning of 3 days sober. I don't have any withdrawal symptoms yet. I have been drinking every night for nearly 6 years. Will I experience any symptoms after 3 days or am I in the clear? I did used to have anxiety prior to drinking though and and when hungover but haven't had it since not drinking.

Hi Jillian, we are all different and it depends on the severity of your drinking and for how long it's been going on.

Congrats on your commitment to stay sober ;-)

I wish you well and keep posting

Great Job on 3 Days!!

I can't imagine things being too bad if you've got a few days over without any major symptoms, though if things do get rough best to check in with a Dr.

The important thing though is to not now be tempted by thoughts of "I feel fine now, maybe I can drink" or "that wasn't too bad, maybe I can drink in moderation" . . . always be on your guard!!

Jillian, my withdrawal symptoms started on about day 3. Today was my 9th day sober and my worst day so far. I will say however that 80% of these last 9 days I've felt fine. But I have gotten hot flashes, anxiety and dizziness. I really hope that you don't experience any of that, but I just wanted to give you a heads up that it is possible. Have an ask-a-nurse number handy just in case you feel strange and need to talk to and experienced person, should you develop any symptoms. You might also want to let your doc know that your attempting to quit cold Turkey. I just called him yesterday, but I wish I had called him on day 1, just to let him know what my intentions were. Best of luck to you!!! I've been on this site for 3 or 4 days and everybody has been very friendly and supportive. I've noticed that ppl tend to respond quickly to, so you never really feel alone. Again, best of luck to you!!

From what I've read, the worst usually happens within the first 3 days, if anything life-threatening will take place. Some people get bad withdrawals, but others get nothing

Thank you everyone. Being on the site has helped me tremendously I don't know at what I would do without you all! Vincen I hope that your symptoms subside soon. Hate that you have to experience that.

The few times that I have quit for weeks or a month at a time I would get night sweats and have difficulty sleeping and then after that nothing. That's all I've ever had to endure.

Hi Jillian - sometimes I had symptoms, sometimes not.
Sounds like you got a lucky break this time
